That would explain why FCA stopped offering eTorque on the 2.0T.
"Sitting out in the sun caused the 48-volt batteries to explode."

But they're still making the Pentastar eTorque with the same lithium battery pack and afaik, the battery and fuel tank are still very close. Not really sure how such a problem would be exclusive to the 2.0T engine.

The eTorque system on the 2.0T is different from the 3.6 V6 and 5.7 V8. From the outset Fiat designed the 2.0T to be a mild hybrid. For instance, the generator is a direct drive and is placed quite low.

The V6 and V8 had eTorque added years later; the system was designed in the US and is a bit different. The generator uses a belt drive among other things.

I do find it interesting that, in every Jeep fire thread, the poor ol clutch is immediately called out as a prime suspect....
The 6MT has a pretty good alibi as it's as scarce as a UFO. (Recently in the news Congress released information about resolved UAP sightings. Turns out 9 of the reported ~500 UAP sightings happened to just be MT JL wranglers on various mountain trails).
The MT def didn't cause the parking lot full of jeeps to burn for obvious reasons.
The 6MT isn't the best but it sure ain't the worst either.

In Canada the 2.0T etorque would have cost more than the 4xe according to my napkin math, and that's before factoring in the government grease, I think that's why they don't offer it.

Might be the same in the US, but I'm not familiar with the US pricing of the Sahara.

Yes, back in 2019, FCA wanted a $1,000 premium for the 2.0T eTorque over the regular V6. There were few takers, though. By the end of the year 80% of the stock sitting on dealer lots had the 2.0T eTorque. FCA had to put a $500 rebate on the engine to clear the inventory. It then pulled that plug on the engine altogether.

Now we are finding out that they were prone to fires, too.

I think Fiat overestimated its own ability in designing bulletproof engines, or at least overestimated Americans' perceptions of Fiat, and underestimated Americans' traditional preference for larger, quieter engines. This is the only way I can explain why FCA thought Americans would be willing to pay a price premium for the smaller engine.

Better mileage than the V6 maybe?
