After 9 years since my grandfathers passing I was able to get his 78 F250 Camper Special from my brothers. Wrangler is going to wait on mods as I start to fix this guy up. He was the original owner. 400ci 4 speed manual. Has 92k original miles. Really blessed to keep it in the family.

I learned to drive stick on one of those. It was light pea green. Wish my grandfather had kept it too!
Thats awesome, wish I learned how to drive a stick on this truck. He really loved it so glad he never sold it. But it has been neglected for over 15 years.

Dad had a 1978 F250 with 4 spd and a 351 small block that I learned stick on. 1st gear was a stump puller. You would be up to 10 MPH and the engine was screaming then shift to 2nd. Not sure why we never started out in second and just feathered the clutch a touch more.

Pulling out into traffic in first was always a hair raiser in that.

Oh yeah, its always in second when going. First is never used, but great for crawl speeds. Truck has the dana 60 rear and 44 front 4.10 gears so pretty low ( err high gears ) for a stock truck.

best body style of all fords in my opinion. my first new vehicle was a 1978 F150 4x4 it is the only vehicle I have owned that I wish I still had. I bet the glove box trim is slightly crooked :) i think every 1978 I have ever seen they were slightly off.

glove box is in good shape. =) most of it is in good shape. Missing the Ranger badge on the faux wood, but i can get that. Door Panels are good but the mounting clips are broke on one side. Dash Pad is cracked all too crap, but im glad reproductions are made. All the seals and weather stripping are going to need replaced though, as expected.

What an awesome restoration project you have there, original to your family, low miles, nicely equipped, and special meaning!
Have fun with it! I know I would. 😁

Nice. I factory ordered a 1978 F150 4X4 in that copper color that was popular back then. Had the 351 Windsor engine & auto trans, manual locking hubs like in your photo. Couldn't even catch up to a Volkswagon beetle leaving from a traffic light, it was so detuned because of emissions requirements. Eventually traded it on a factory ordered CJ7 in my avatar.

I know a homeless guy in Jackson Hole, Wyoming that has that same truck in blue. He loves it and keeps it in fantastic shape. There is a topper on it and he lives out of it in the summer.

Congrats on keeping it in the family.

I had the 300 6 and hd 4speed...things were different back then..I was 18 and two of my class mates also 18 one bought a chevy half ton 4x4 with 350 and another bought a new dodge power wagon with 318 (he still has it) and the dodge would walk away from either of the other two. another buddy bought a new 150 step side 4x4 with the 351 and he was marginally faster than i was. he had an auto in his as well. the 300 6 was a pretty good engine. I remember we would marvel and the pollution cansiters lol thought it was terrible...imagine only having one coffee can size epa piece on your car....

WOW! What an awesome truck! My grandfather passed in 2016 and his Model T still sits in the barn.. It hasn't been driven in roughly 20 years, all original we aren't sure what to do with it because they're not the easiest to drive. We have a local large car museum we are thinking of donating it to, if they don't want it who knows..

Nice. Doesnt look like too much needs to be done except some basic maintenance.

Once you get up closer for sure needs a lot of work. A couple of the nutserts for the mirrors have ripped out of the door and left a couple holes O.o But its in a great place to fix and enjoy driving at the same time.
