2018 Jeep JL Rubicon
Our Rubicon started out great with the exception of the soft top but we just lived with it. We were in Moab ,Badlands and a lot of other great trails with it and then when 40,000 miles hit all the problems started. I never take out extended warranties cause you shouldn’t have to a vehicle should go over 100,000 miles with no problem.
I felt bad when people got brand new Jeep’s and they couldn,t keep them on the road and all the other problems. Unfortunately we were having issues with the radio, the steering was getting way to loose, the lockers would work sometimes and sometimes not.
We did nothing extreme that this vehicle would have suffered damage from and that’s why I’m just amazed how poor the durability of these Jeeps are. We never really had problems with our JK but initially liked the JL better until the problems started.
So for now we’re going around in a Gmc Canyon and wait a few years to see how the Broncos hold up or a Raptor or maybe a Toyota.

Sorry to hear about the issues. I agree, sucks to have so much invested in a vehicle and it not run correctly. Good luck with the future plans, I’m sure the Bronco will do well but unfortunately I’m sure it too will succumb to issues as well.....I’m mean it’s a Ford right? :LOL:

There’s a no charge fix for the steering. The locker problem is something Jeep needs to get on. It could be a cheap fix if they develop a work around for it.

Sorry for your troubles. It sucks.

The Raptor is cool, but it has nothing in common with the JL except tire brand and four wheel drive. And the Raptor definitely isn’t a rock crawler, but it’s huge fun at speed... you’ll miss the Jeep.

His warranty is over. That TSB is not free to get done unless the Jeep is under warranty.

I should have read it more closely. Hard to believe some have that many miles. Seems like the JL just came out, but it’s been over 3 years now. 40k isn’t really that much.

I parked next to a Rapture yesterday at the gym and was surprised to see it was as tall as my lifted JL with 37s.

I'd definitely wait on the Bronco to work out any bugs it'll likely come with, if that's what you're wanting. Even with the best of the best as far as proven quality, sometimes it's luck of the draw. I had a brand new 2017 Civic (I got for my daughter) blow oil all over my garage floor its first week lol.
It's a pickup, you're measuring the wrong part. The ground clearance is crap.

There are folks that are getting it done free after the warranty has run out. But, those may be folks that have prior complaints on record.

I'm at 30k miles in just over a year ? I'll find out if my JT Sport will suffer problems at 40k miles in 2-3 months if Jeeps start showing problems at 40k miles

A JT owner has put 100k miles in the first year on his vehicle escort rig without any major problems (outside those caused by the nature of his work - battery because it's cold and truck runs all the time, winshield cracks, etc)

It's not just the height, or ground clearance (which the Jeep has more of), but the width. The width can mean the difference of being able to make a narrow trail or not.

Just a quick question, how was your upkeep on your Jeep?
My JK had 60,000 miles and to keep it runing, I changed every fluid on extreme service warranty.
JK was hit and totaled,so JL it is now!

NO problem? Um...dunno where you get this idea. I would agree if you said "no MAJOR problem"...but you are not going to find a new vehicle from ANY manufacturer that is going to go 100k miles with NO problem of any kind.

As it is now 2020, things like engines, transmissions, drivelines, and suspensions should have no MECHANICAL issues for nearly 100k miles...definitely. And that is the case for the overwhelming majority of vehicles built today, Wrangler included. HOWEVER, you have no reasonable justification to expect no electrical or "gadget" failure at any time. There are just too many of those things built into a modern vehicle to not have any issues. You will find the same situation with Toyota, Honda, GM, Ford...or anyone else.

You have a legit complaint about the steering. Especially since the steering system on the Wrangler is a design that's been around since the invention of dirt...there is absolutely no excuse for it not to be perfect. But the rest, well that's normal life for a modern automobile, and why extended warranties are near necessities now.

Every car manufacturer has people who have problems with their vehicles.

Better luck with your next one but no guarantee it will be any better.

It's basically a crapshoot.

Toyotas are a top reliability listed truck but I had a 4Runner that ate oil, had the engine, replaced, and ended up going to an arbitrator to get my money back. Life being a crap shoot and in today's manufacturing your vehicle reliability can come down to what day of the week it was done. Vehicles are rolling computers these days and everyone knows how computers glitch and do crazy stuff. Good luck on the next vehicle but if you really want reliability you may want to buy stock and build it so you know the parts and thus strength and quality that go in. I am betting on 40K and little to no problems - hope I win the bet
