Slate is dead. Stillborn.

Ford keeps tweaking the Maverick starting at $30K.
Hyundai keeps tweaking the Santa Cruz starting at $30K.
Toyota is about to release the Stout under the Tacoma to compete with the above vehicles also at $30K.

There is no way anyone will pass on the above vehicles to get a $30K 2 door half baked pickup from Slate.

Well, let me correct that - about 15 TikTok influencers will buy them to make content. So, there is the market size for you. 15.

Jeep is us already one of the most customizable vehicles from the factory.
I think ordering a Jeep Wrangler to your spec is one of the most frustrating things. The Website build interface is completely broken and incorrect nearly 100% of the time.

In the European brands, you can really pick individual options, then generate a build code, and send to dealers for quotes, then order it and track progress on line till the vehicle shows up.

Go look at a Land Rover Defender, for example, the closest to a Wrangler. You have 3 sizes 90, 110, 130. You have 4 engines in the US (more internationally), untold number of wheels, untold number of interior trims and colors, etc. The Website is always on-point. The dealers are all 100% familiar with the ordering process, they are well trained to assist you.

Toyota and Honda don't have custom orders, but at least their Websites are correct for you to build a configuration and send it to dealers to be on a wait list. It sucks, and you should just shop what is on the lot with them.

I walked in, told my salesman exactly what I wanted and it was delivered in 8 weeks. Shit wasnt that hard.

Same. I paid a deposit for the JLU config that I wanted, and it was offloaded from the truck exactly 8 weeks later. My wife wrote a similar check for a new Honda already on the lot, and she collected it the next day.

We've had relatively good luck with our dealer experiences. In fairness, I don't mean to take anything away from folks whose dealers haven't treated them well.

Same. Told @RobTrachtman from Tuttle Click Jeep exactly what I wanted and got a fair price by email. Picked it up a couple of months later with no price shenanigans or issues. Easiest purchase we’ve ever made on a new vehicle.

And if its that hard from the local dealer there are plenty out there that are willing to work with you, @Ratbert has a whole list of them.

Same, I had a deposit on a Tacoma at the Toyota dealer across the street from the CJDR dealer. That was a nightmare, I knew what I wanted and what I didnt, they didnt want to not put on the addendum garbage and after an hour of arguing I got to 98% of what I wanted out of the Taco.

Dad talked me into test driving a Wrangler cause being a CJDR tech for a few years I swore to never own a chrysler product and after driving one I was impressed with the changes from the late 90s/early 00s. Other than the fact they still use the same steering wheel radio controls that is.

Walked into the CJDR dealer and transferred my deposit same day and had the Jeep within 2 months with 0 addendum bullshit.

Been trying to buy a jeep for 5 years, its hopeless.
And the website just wants to lease station wagons with snorkels.

I walked in
Already a loss for me. I want to do it in my couch, comfortably comparing options, seeing what in stock vehicles match that config, sending it to multiple dealers to provide a quote, etc.

in 2026, having to leave your house, to sit in a decrepit Jeep dealership, dealing with a poorly trained comissiones sales person, to sit in front of his computer, inputting order codes in a 1970s IBM mainframe style program is exhibit one of how messed up the experience is.

Have you ordered a Rivian, or Tesla. You can do it from your phone, while doing bathroom activities or at the beach or whatever.
