Reared ended on the highway today by a guy driving a Chevy 1500 pulling an airstream. His front end is pretty much demolished. My rear end works fine, though insurance should cover a replaced tailgate (dented in 1/8 inch), replaced rear bumper, and maybe shell out some cash for the rear body (part below tailgate dented pretty good).

I'm sniffing an impending Warn rear bumper...

Dang, hate to hear this. Glad you’re okay and definitely take the opportunity to upgrade

It always amazes me at the seemingly little damage these Jeeps get when rear ended.

Happen to me with a Mercedes. It was a hard hit, but his bumper and hood got pretty messed up.

Barely a scuff on my bumper

Thats a Chevy 1500 but yeah the Jeep looks ok.
Thanks. Changed. Been a while since I've looked at Chevy pickups with any interest ;)

The rear end of most vehicles takes damage better (when of roughly equal height). Just the way it is.

Wow, That looks really bad for your bumper. I think it could be fixed with new RockHard Patriot aluminum bumper. And that crunched tailgate might be fixable with a spare tire relocation bracket, I mean tailgate reinforcement bracket. Find a good (expensive) body shop and submit their estimate.to your insurance company for a check paid to you. Easy if you own the Jeep. Probably paid to both parties if you are financed.

True, but most vehicles don't have a spare tire that hangs 10 inches past the rear bumper.
