Recently gifted my son my 2006 Rubicon, including the Hi-Lift jack.

Thoughts on adequacy of the stock jack for changing 33s on the highway on a 2 Dr Rubicon X, and thoughts on off-road jacking?

It’s been 10 years since I had to change a tire off-road, and was always a wee bit leery of the Hi-Lift, and I’m almost 70, so feel free to factor that into the answer.?

A few blocks of wood (squared-off cuts of 2x6) thrown into your jeep make for a fine base to put the OEM jack for offroad situations. Alternatively, AEV offers a jack base, also compatible with OEM jack. It doubles as a wheel chock. AEV base has a nice mount for under the passenger dash: https://www.aev-conversions.com/product/jl-jack-base/

The stock jack works okay with a base/ block, as stated above. A HMMWV jack works even better.

A High Lift is of little value and dangerous to those who have never spent any time learning how to use one properly. They are great for fence work though.

I'm gonna fix you right up buddy!

I carry a 3-ton, 21" tall, wide base jack in the small plastic tote. The small Walmart bottle jack fits in the JL storage compartment along with my factory scissor jack. Plus, I carry an air compressor, tire plug kit, 4-way multi lug wrench, breaker bar, deep well socket, a can of hair spray and a cigarette lighter. This way you'll have every tire covered.

I’d prefer the block and a standard type jack over a Hilift. To ME they’re just too …

The Hi-Lift is more for getting unstuck. You can change a tire with it but there are better tools for that.
Have used a Hi-Lift to get a stuck vehicle out many times.

Ask for the Hi-Lift back and put it in the back of the garage, under a bunch of crap you'll never move. Or, better yet, give it to someone you don't like.

I don't think hairspray is explosive enough for a large tire? Starting fluid has worked for me even up to 42's, but it's been a while. Now I just purposely run wider tires on factory narrow rims. Sure I can still lose a bead doing dumb things at low air pressure, but the compressor by itself will reseat the bead without issue or explosive assistance.

The hairspray and lighter are basically a joke, ?

I believe in a pinch it could work though.

Having owned a Hi-Lift jack for decades as a CJ and TJ owner, I admittedly found it much less useful than I had anticipated. The stock jack in the JL is OK for most roadside situations and the bottle jack is arguably a little better, although it needs to be stored upright. However, the HMMWV jack has proven to be the best option out there, especially since you can still find NOS kits for under $100. Here's what my set-up looks like:

Everyone seems to have their own opinion on this topic, which I respect, but just wanted to share my experience. Best of luck no matter what you decide and happy Jeepin'!

Was gifted the AEV base and used it a couple weeks ago with the stock jack, works great. I have 35s.

Couple slabs of 2x6 work great on road with the factory jack but sometimes you need a HiLift. I use a DLA when I have to use one. JeepNeeds have a couple of safety products for JK/JL/JT.
