They would have called it a “Ramcharger” . Anyway yes bloat, PU’s are a prime example, Ram is huge crew cab only, they aren’t my 57 Chevy’s size anymore.Let me answer that question this way... When I bought my current Jeep, it wasn't with the idea of buying a Jeep. (That was what the TJ was for.) I bought it to replace my (then) recently departed Gen II Bronco. They do, after all, weigh within a couple hundred pounds of each other. Horsepower notwithstanding, that bone-stock Bronco was a vastly superior off-roader than the current Jeep.
That said, when designing the current bloated pig that is the JL Wrangler, FCA should have just built it on the 2500 Ram chassis and called it a day.

Great family heirloom, I am a bit surprised at high maintenance cost. We still have Dad’s 3A, I passed it down several years ago. #2 grandson loves it and can’t wait to drive it, #1 wasn’t interested. #3 still too young, but I passed the which one gets great Grandpa’s Jeep problem down to my son too.
Got it for oldest son in the mid-nineties for $500 when he was 16. Had Fred Flintstone floorboards and one of those useless carburetors, worn out 4.2 liter. He redid the body, put in a Jasper engine, converted to Holly Pro-jection. When he moved away and married, it went to younger son, who first tried to bandaid all the on-going ailments, rear diff, Chrysler 3 speed auto tranny, recurring body rot. As you see in the photo, he just completed a full restoration, the only thing done since then was to install a set of original white spokers. It was born a Laredo with chrome spokers, but we an issue with lightning hitting our storage shed during the early years. I actually saw a jeep with 35's get stuck and a jeep with skinny 33's rip right through it.
