iPad mini uses

I used that setup in my JK, worked awesome! I permanently installed the Garmin in the sport bar near the XM antenna. Garmin ships a super long usb cord with the gps. My JL has the 8.4 & Gaia works on CarPlay…..so didn’t re-install it. But it worked great, the iPad auto connected to the gps every time & worked great!

Unfortunately I don’t. I had the usb plugged into a BlackVue Power Magic behind the glovebox, ran the cable up the a-pillar & along the sport bar to just above the passenger seat. The Power Magic gives constant power to the gps but will turn it off if voltage dropped below 11v (you can set the dropout voltage). It was clean & easy install. I made sure that it was on top of the sport bar so there was no metal blocking the gps.

I use an 11" iPad Pro w/cellular (not activated) and Gaia GPS. It blocks the radio but I don't really listen to it when offroad, anyway.

Hmmmm, I use an old Ipad mini when we travel, and it's simply connected to my phone or another ipad hotspot, and it seems to track just fine in Google maps?!? it IS cellular capable, but doesn't have an active cell plan.

Only cellular iPads have the GPS hardware. Same thing happened to mine
