Greetings from australia. Brad here. Not a wrangler owner but am considering a jl rubicon when they get here. They look cool monus that crappy stop start crap and the push button start. Apart from that am keen to test drive either the diesel jl we get here or the rubicon

Well, back in a Jeep after many years. I had a '81 CJ-7 and now have a 2018 Sahara Unlimited!

Howdy! (waving)

I've really caught the itch and am fitting the JL into my master plan for retirement in conjunction with a planned move from Virginia to southwest Colorado... as of midnight tonight I am exactly 345 days from retirement! But I'm getting ahead of myself, so here's my story...

I did a 3-year enlistment in the Army in the late 1970's, stationed in Germany. During those three years, I regularly drove an M151A2 "Jeep" in all sorts of conditions... roads (even Autobahns!), off-roads, cross country, snow, mud, etc. and loved every minute of it! Would still love to have such a basic machine to putter around in and work on. In the mid-80's I acquired a 1978 CJ-7 which I really liked and motored around in for a couple of years before being stationed back in Germany again. On my return to the States I got a used Bronco II with an automatic, which was fun, but I didn't have a lot of faith in the transmission or transfer case. Next came a manual Dodge Dakota 4X4, which was useful, but the long wheelbase was a hindrance. Then I got soft... a Honda CR-V with automatic, which I convinced myself was capable... against all evidence. Next up, and my current ride... a 6-speed manual Subaru Outback, which I really love and is the best riding car I have ever had. Along the way there have been a few other vehicles... VW Super Beetle, Renault Alliance, Renault 11 (while in Germany), Plymouth Voyager and Grand Voyager, Honda Odyssey and Civic.

For years I have been planning to move to southwest Colorado for retirement and have spent a couple of weeks there in the fall every year for the past 5 years. Two years ago I attempted briefly to drive the historic Bachelor Loop around Creede in a rental sedan, but wisely gave up before getting stuck. So this fall I rented a JK Sport S Unlimited in South Fork for a day to do the drive as well as a visit to the Summitville ghost town and rediscovered the joys and capabilities of The Real Deal. I had been planning to get a new Outback in conjunction with my future move, but this Jeep rental started some serious soul searching and a re-evaluation. The more I looked into the back roads of southwest Colorado... in particular a YouTube video of Black Bear Pass... I realized that an Outback wouldn't do what I want to be able to do. An RV might also be part of my retirement plan as well... but an Outback can't be towed like a Jeep can behind an RV.

Then I discovered just a couple of weeks ago that the JL was out and started looking into it. Everything I have seen has convinced me this is the way to go and I am salivating at the possibilities! This past Saturday I visited the local Jeep dealer... they had just received their very first JL (4-door Sahara). I took it for a test drive and was surprised at the refinement in the ride compared to the JK Sport I had driven in the fall... everything on the JL seems to be an improvement! Naturally I've convinced myself I need a Rubicon. My purchase likely won't be until Spring 2019 (since I'm hoping to be offered an early retirement incentive bonus) in conjunction with the retirement move... so will be a 2019 JLUR (hoping the first year hiccups are fixed).

Can't wait!

New owner here, just dropped in to say hello! I've had my 2018 JLU almost two weeks and I am loving it! I picked up a 2016 Renegade Trailhawk for my kids a few months ago and got bit by the Jeep bug.

Hello from Western North Carolina. Went to the dealership to get a Ram 2500 and drove away in a jl rubicon. Wife still wants to know what happened. I've had it for a little over a month and love it. We have taken it wheeling a couple of times and on the beach in Hatteras. So far I have made a few change. I had the front windows tinted to match and changed out hood latches. Good times ahead!

Hello from the valley of the sun out in Arizona! I've owned two rubicons previously and have just placed my order on a 2 door JL. Time to play the waiting game and figured I'd drop in here for my first post. Love the pictures of the new JLs going offroad. :like:

Hello!

My name is Cid and I just picked up my first jeep. Been wanting one forever and finally decided to hop on board and see why Jeep owners are so passionate about them.

Jeep wave!

Hi All! New to the forums here, and newish to Jeeps :)

For the past 17 years I have mainly driven sports cars. Bought a 95 Corvette back in 2001 and drove that up to 2015, when I decided to give it to my 70 year old father (because all 70 year olds deserve a Vette!) and bought myself a 2016 Miata. And now I will be getting rid of the Miata for a Jeep.

So how the heck does one go from a Miata to Jeep? Well first, let's just say Mazda quality is not what it used to be. Also, I drove a 71, maybe 72?, Jeep Commando for a bit back in the mid 80's. Had a hell of alot of fun in it, hoping to have just as much fun in a new one.

And then there's my wife. I have talked about getting a new car on and off for awhile now, and every time she says "O you already have a new car! No need to get rid of it and get another!".

When I mentioned a Jeep she was all like "You should go for it Honey. Do what makes you happy! O and BTW are you going with that hot looking Orange? Because I LOVE that color!".

So... yeah I am going with Punk'n because I happen to love the color. And I know she has her eye on driving "Our" new Jeep :p

Hi - Chris here. Just ordered new JLUR (Ocean Blue, Manual, lots of toys) a few weeks ago and am anxiously awaiting delivery. I live up here in Maine with my wife and kids, so can't wait for some off-roading even if exploring some of our more remote areas to the north. Probably not going to mod out too much - definitely winch, maybe some off-road lights, but largely leaving fairly intact to see how well the 33s work on logging roads and moderate off-roads up here.
