Hey everyone. I am looking at a 2024 Rubicon X that has 7700 miles on it. It was imported from Canada which voids any FCA warranty. The dealer has its own CPO on it but I wont use them because of the distance between us.
They told me Allstate has a good aftermarket for like 3500.00. What are your opinions on going with an aftermarket warranty? Just as good as FCA? I know that I would not be eligible for recalls, which kind of sucks. I love the Jeep but don't want to make a bad decision and regret it later.

Any input would greatly appreciated.

Thanks

First, confirm if your $3.5K is buying an actual warranty, or a Service Contract. The two are separate and distinct. A Service Contract can be easily used to invalidate any claims you make against it, if you haven't followed to the letter the prescribed maintenance intervals and procedures (if present) as stipulated in the contract.

It's easy money for the selling entity, which is why they tend to push them as hard as they do when a customer buys a used vehicle. We just went through this in late February, when buying a CUV for my wife. I literally had to say No to 3 separate staff people, culminating with the dealer's General Mgr., before they gave up.

Such contracts aren't, in isolation, a bad thing. The onus is still on the buyer to parse out what it requires of him during the term of coverage. Be careful.

@Laz More details would be helpful. I wouldn't consider the purchase unless the savings outweighed the costs. It should be relatively easy to find a similarly equipped US Model, so the only reason to look at a grey market model would be because the savings vastly outweigh the costs of the US Model. Of course, you need to factor in the lack of warranty/aftermarket warranty costs into that consideration as well.

Are you sure that FCA won't honor the warranty here? I purchased a Canadian F150 and Ford honored the warranty and any related work. (I did call multiple dealers to confirm this, prior to the purchase) I wouldn't just take one dealers word on this.

I would take the $3,500 and just put it away for any maintenance items that would be considered warranty. I personally am not a big fan of extended warranties or service contracts. It’s rare you get value out of them.

If you are getting a good enough deal on a ‘24 with such low miles, I would be happy, have fun with it and just perform any repairs or maintenance on it as it is required.

If you are not getting that great of a deal, I would pass and either get something new or from the USA with the balance of the warranty on it.

Check it for hood, door and tailgate corrosion- paint bubbling. That’s a big point of contention on them not wanting to honor the warranty. I would stick with a non winter exposed Jeep personally.

Is there something about this one Jeep in particular that makes it worth the risk?
Is there not a similar Jeep here in the U.S. you could get if you were willing to wait?

Thanks. That was going to be my next question. I don’t plan on buying one from the dealer but I will find my own. Any recommendations on who has the best prices?

Thanks for the info. It’s a great deal if the warranty was valid. But. They just got it on the lt and won’t negotiate now. I’m very specific with my needs and have been searching the whole country for 2 months now lol. This one is a beauty. If I can find a good aftermarket warranty for about 2 K I would probably buy the Jeep.

I hear you. But I need that piece of mind if spending that much on it, especially with the history of Jeeps having issues.

It is my favorite color, has all the option I want, no sky one touch, low mileage, one owner etc etc. I’ve been looking nation wide for 2 months now. Even looking into new, but even the best deal is like 61K for new. This is 53 right now.

I missed out on one a month ago because I was pushing them to lower the price. They did, but when I went to go make the deal, someone swooped in on me and bought it. I didn’t have a deposit on it.

Im very particular lol.

I would pass on the warranty for now. Someone will probably randomly call you at dinner time from another country and offer to sell you one every month after you buy your new vehicle anyway. 😂

$53K for a used Canadian vehicle without warranty is not a good deal, even if it had just 100 miles on it and was a 2025 (unless it’s a 392 with 100 miles and clean track record). This isn’t even close in my view and my benchmark would be absolutely fully loaded and stuffed too-end Wrangler trims with all bells and whistles. I would separate “time of deal” from “quality of deal” when judging the price. The Mopar extended warranty will be your best bet from a peace of mind perspective but neither Mopar nor other warranties truly cover everything that the factory warranty would have. And you’re buying a Stellantis vehicle, so that makes it even more concerning.

Have you looked into ordering one directly from the factory? Have you checked with one of the volume dealers often discussed on this forum to order from? The cost of the aftermarket warranty added to the 53k price is putting you in the range of most jeeps, excepting 392's.

I ordered mine as described above and got everything I wanted. I also got it for more than $8k under sticker.

So I just called Mopar Customer support and she told me that if I buy it, I just need to call and they can transfer the original warranty for me. Gave me a case number and everything. I asked specifically if she was 00% sure and she said yes. The dealer does not know this and is going to give me a bit of a discount to boot.
