Inexpensive storage on spare tire

I finally got around to working on this little low budget project. I scored an Apache case from HF when they had their 50% off (total $30). I had some metal pieces in the garage and a heavy duty ratchet strap (would have preferred it to be black, but using what I had). Built the metal stand , permanently mounted the case to it and then strapped around tire. Feels rock solid and gave me space for a large cutting board/collapsible pan, Jet Boil stove, 2 green bottles and my battery water pump. Total with loaded is 26lbs. and I felt that wasn’t too excessive.
Not as pretty as some of the store bought ones, but I think it will work.

True, unfortunately i already have a blind spot when the back is loaded for overlanding (I have one of those elevated shelves). I’m hoping with using the unistrut the brake light will shine through the perforated holes - I’ll check that tonight

I'd consider adding rubber edge trim where the metal contacts the tire tread.

Have you considered the brake light ring inside the tyre? No more third break light issue.

Those harbor freight cases take a beating. I'm lookin at the gun case for the roof racks. Pull the foam out and you can pack tons.
