I received a Jeep Waves email thanking me for a recent service at San Diego CJDR, however I have never serviced my Jeep there. I live in Illinois. It seems like someone entered my VIN for their service. I called the dealer and they said they couldn’t do anything and hung up on me. I opened a Jeep Cares case and they said they are looking into it.

Has this happened to anyone else? I don’t care about being down a free oil change/tire rotation (I do them myself) but I am worried someone is using my VIN to service their Jeep which may result in warranty issues or incorrect service history when I go to sell it. For example, I have not had the clutch recall done, what if someone gets their clutch using my VIN and my replacement gets denied? I realize someone at the dealer may have just fat-fingered the VIN when they typed it into their computer but I’m still somewhat worried. The dealer’s service center complete dismissal of my concern is not promising.

Your concerns about data entry errors coming back to haunt you are legitimate. In your position, I'd create a Word doc that plots out the dates, times and conversations that have occurred as I attempt to reconcile the matter.

This would include my reaching out to Carfax, for example, to determine what recourse I'd have if service and/or repair appts. get attached to my Jeep's history record in error. If it proceeds to this point, treat the matter as though your Credit History report has a plain error that you can prove is inaccurate.

A well-composed letter, mailed to the General Manager of the offending dealership and with a polite explanation of the issue, is a good first step. Do explicitly mention that you were hung up on after making a good faith inquiry here.

Did they use your VIN, or did they just give the wrong email address? I sometimes get emails intended for other people because they made a typo on the email address.

If you logon to connect.jeep.com/mopar.com, does it show a record of the service?

Thanks. I ran a Carfax report and there is no new service records from San Diego CDJR but it may be too soon for any to show up. I think I will write the GM a letter, at least so there is a record of their mistake.

I don't have any explanation but I had a similar thing happen to me. Got an email asking me to review my service at JCDR of Ontario. Never seen or heard of this place. I hadn't even had my brand new jeep serviced at that point.
Seems, as other posters suggested, that I should investigate a little deeper as well.

The emails (there are two) both looked like auto-generated Jeep Waves emails and used my first and last name, so I think the dealer used my VIN. Also, my Jeep Wave oil change/tire rotations are missing one each, and I have never used them.

I received a survey to fill out for service work that was done to my 2022 Jeep JL Willys from a dealership in Utah. It listed my VIN and other information that matched my Jeep. My Jeep was purchased in Minnesota. I live in Minnesota and I have not been to Utah. I filled out the survey and gave them all bad marks and stated that I had not been to their dealership and my VIN was used.
Jeep Cares called me in a couple of days because of my negative survey and I explained what had happened. They got on it right away. This was over a year ago and all is well. They figured the VIN was entered incorrectly by one digit and it keyed up my vehicle. They don't like negative responses.

I haven't had the any dealer use my VIN (that I know of), but have had my email tied to transactions on the other side of the country. First time I called and asked them to remove my email they said they couldn't do that. Next it happened I suggested I would fill out the survey with all zeros and wowza suddenly everything was fixed.

Wouldn't surprise me if some dealers have figured out how to use other VINs for the free oil changes and what not....

Unfortunately when dealerships deal with VINs they mostly only use the last 8 characters. The 9th character from the end is a check digit that would keep most of that fat fingering from happening, but I guess it isn't that important to them.

Had a similar issue when I brought my wife’s 2021 Wrangler in for its first service. The car only had about 1100 miles on it and the dealer said that it had been in for service In Illinois (I live in Texas) at about 12K miles. Obviously, someone fat fingered the wrong VIN into the system. Customer Care eventually sorted it out and the correct mileage was put back into the system. Not sure about CarFax. I saved all correspondence with Jeep Customer Care just in case there are any questions when I decide to sell.
