I watched several

I watched several videos on YouTube. I would have to go back and look to see which one I used most. Lost about a quart of oil and not much coolant. Make sure to get a inch pound torque wrench
Thanks for the feedback. Set on tools.

Do you know what the capacity is by chance?
10.7 quarts for the 3.6. But you likely won't be able to drain it completely, even if you pull the plugs on the side of the block. But you should probably pull them anyway, or at least the passenger side plug. With the fender off, you can easily see the plug in the block. It's a 10mm hex allen plug. I couldn't easily reach the driver side plugs, so I didn't bother. So, I ended up putting in about 8 quarts, maybe 9. I put in a gallon of straight coolant first, then filled to the limit with distilled.

I imagine it was still a mess trying to catch it in a tub or something.

I pull it apart at the tee fitting in the middle.

How do you determine that an idler pulley is going bad?
We used to listen to bearings using a long screwdriver on the housing to determine where the noise was coming from.
that doesn’t seem to fit the bill for the new contraptions.

The pulley has bearings and the grease leaks out before complete failure. If you have a line right behind the pulley across the intake manifold then yours is leaking.
