I was out in the Jeep this chilly -8° morning and decided to play around with the hill descent option a bit on the way back home. I had the heater going full blast and it was not in "auto" mode. I had the air flow set to the floor only.
I stopped and put the Jeep in neutral to shift into low range and when doing so, I noticed that the HVAC switched over to recirculate (the recirc light didn't come on). I shifted back to D and the HVAC switched back to outside air. Shifted to P and the HVAC went back to recirculate.
Apparently it is designed to switch from outside air to recirculate based on the position of the gear selector. What is the benefit of this???
