Wonder how it differs from Renewable diesel found here in NorCal. I use that almost exclusively

and the confusion surrounding BioFuels continues. 🙄

firstly, the term HVO (Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil) is defined as being made from "...used vegetable oils, waste cooking oils, and animal fats."
Animal Fats ≠ Vegetable Oil. WTF?

further, that article links to a Wikipedia page that says HVO is Renewable Diesel.

jeepcares hasn't given us a clear ruling over the last hew years on whether the Renewable Diesel being dispensed at increasingly more stations in the US is acceptable for use, in spite of repeated direct inquiries, except to say it was "not recommended". now we're seeing reports that Stellantis is allegedly blessing the use of same.

@JeepCares ; does this mean that it's now officially acceptable to use Renewable Diesel in our EcoDiesels? (it's getting hard in some places *not* to!)

Is the 3.0L MultiJet really the same as our EcoDiesel? I'd never seen it called that.
1st I've seen it called multijet, but it does say ecodiesel next to it and had a jl pictured in the article.

If it was legal for on road use then it'd be pointless since it's identical to #2 diesel other than color.

but its cheaper :)

Because it's not taxed.

Maybe you're just trying to divert the subject from HVO for some reason? Or maybe you're wanting to go down the political path of suggesting that we shouldn't tax fuel?

Renewable diesel and HVO diesel are the same. They are the molecular equivalent of petroleum diesel. They are also called "drop in fuels" as they require no changes to the engine consuming them. Biodiesel functions as petroleum but is not the molecular equivalent. Renewable diesel has a large subsidy in California as it costs more to make but is cleaner than diesel. Biodiesel can be run to 100% in vehicles as well, but some of its properties make it better at up to 20% (or less in cold climates). If you run a high percentage biodiesel, you will have to change your fuel filter more often as it actually cleans out deposits from the petroleum diesel.
