I am trying to swap out a coil pack on one spark plug but cannot figure out how to disconnect the coil.

Looking at #1, I am under the impression that the blue arrow points to a lock or at least to something important.

It looks like the cream part (#1 green arrow) cannot go up thanks to the tab (#1 blue arrow). It doesn't look like cream tab can do down, either.

How does one go about getting this thing off?

your photo #2 looks correct. I hate those things tho so easy to break them
Are you able to provide a little more wording? Image #2 was just me pointing to things; I really don't know what I am supposed to do with any of them. I used different-colored arrows to make it easier to talk about the different parts.

I do very much appreciate the help!

LOL With this style of connector in general, I’ve found sometimes forcing the connectors together to relieve some tension, then depressing the latch helps. Sometimes they feel like they’re glued together,

This is my technique as well, you have a lot of crusty stuff going on there. If you go to You tube there is a good video second one on the list that describes how to remove connector at 8 minutes in. Checkit out it will answer your question.

Thanks. The problem is that YouTube has millions of videos, and "the second one on the list" can be completely different depending on who searches and when. Could you post a direct link to the video you're referring to? That would help a lot.

Hope this helps.

Access the Plugs

  • For the 2.0L Turbo: Remove the engine cover by removing the two retaining bolts (usually T30 Torx) at the front and lifting it up off its rear posts.
  • For the 3.6L V6: You may need to move the upper intake manifold out of the way to access the passenger-side spark plugs. [1, 2, 3]
3. Disconnect the Connector
  • Locate the ignition coil sitting directly above the spark plug.
  • Look at the electrical connector clipped to the side of the coil. You will see a small locking tab (often red or white).
  • Use a small flat-head screwdriver or a mechanic's pick to gently slide or pry this tab outward (toward the unlocked position).
  • Once the tab is unlocked, firmly press down on the center release button of the connector and pull it straight off. [1, 2, 3, 4]
4. Remove the Coil and Wire (If needed)
  • If you need to remove the coil entirely to reach the spark plug, use a socket wrench (typically 8mm or 10mm) to remove the small bolt holding the coil pack in place.
  • Gently twist and pull the coil straight up out of the spark plug well. [1, 2]

Helpful Tips
  • Work one by one: If you are servicing all cylinders, disconnect, remove, and replace them one at a time to avoid mixing up the coil connections. [1]
  • Be gentle with clips: The plastic locking clips on these connectors can become brittle with engine heat. Pry them carefully to avoid snapping them. [1]
  • Reconnection: When you plug the connector back in, push it straight down until you hear a clear "click," and then push the locking tab back into its original position to secure it. [1]

Some connectors have a red secondary locking tap which I’ve broken but they aren’t truly necessary. The white clip coming all the way out unbroken is no big deal. I have used WD40 or electrical contact cleaner and sprayed under the lip of where the two connectors join just to try to flush out any debris and try to get some level of lube In there.

Use a very small flat head screwdriver and gently lift up on the edges of the connector. Then without pulling on the wires just start rocking and twisting to see if it starts to budge. But if you feel like you’re at the point of breaking something or just running out of time and patience there’s no shame in taking it to a shop.

*i’m not a mechanic and I run with scissors so don’t follow my advice on mechanical methods,

Yeah, that is where I am at. I got the white/cream thing 100% off, don't think it is supposed to do that, but... I cannot get the connector off AT ALL! I am going to take it into the shop, so tired of this stuff. The world thinks I am made of money, but I'm not. Such as life. Thanks for the help.

Those connectors took me the longest when I did my plugs. Worst part of the job lol. I also didn’t have my pick so it made it harder

They suck. Never dealt with connectors like that until this jeep

Since you have the lock out now push the connector in a little while pressing down on the tab to help get it unhooked and then pull the connector off. If they’ve never been off the rubber gasket inside the connector is likely stuck and you just have to pull harder.
