I’ve been seeing various reports as to which outlets/usb ports are powered by the battery or which ones are tied to the ignition.

Some youtube videos state that the rear 12V always has power regardless as to whether the ride is running or not. Some say it’s tied to the ignition and only has power when the car is running.

same question for the usb ports on the dash. I noticed when I turn the ignition off, they’re still lit and provide power for some time. Do they have a timed switch?

The rear 12V, if equipped, by default from the factory, is always energized. https://www.jlwranglerforums.com/fo...switched-power-under-hood.122900/post-2563660

I think moving its fuse at slot 45 to (the factory) slot 43 in the Power Distribution Center (PDC, a.k.a. .fuse box) gets it to only be energized when the vehicle is in accessory or on mode. I do know that in the 2018 owner's manual there was a typo regarding which fuse had to be moved. I hope they corrected that in future model year manuals.

In regard to ALL, USB ports in the JL:

I tested each USB A port in my JL and another JL. I tested to see just how long it actually took for each USB A port to power down after the JL was turned to off and the doors locked..

Well, though the manual says 60 min. til the USB ports automatically power down..... I found that each USB A port (I tested each separately) fully powered off at approx. 75 minutes.. Yup, approx 75 mins. and not the 60 min. the manual states..

You can test this yourself... in the evening... in the dark ...., open up one of your JL's doors. You will see each USB port /the lighting on it's circumference light up. Now, every few minutes, check look in the window of your JL. You will see the USB's still are lit up.. after 65-75 mins. all USB lights are turned off.

Keep in mind, each time you open the / any door on your parked with ignition off JL, the USB's are powered up and will stay powered up for approx. 65-75 mins.

This USB ports staying powered up for 60-75 mins. after ignition off or after a door, has been opened has been discussed / mentioned many times, especially in the AAWireless Android Auto dongle thread. https://www.jlwranglerforums.com/fo...1-wireless-android-auto-adapter-talk-?.86856/

Holy moly! The reason I was wondering is because I attached a tiny usb nightlight type device to the usb A port and noticed it stays lit after the ignition is off and doors locked. It’ll be off when I go back to the ride the next morning

Anyone know how to mod dash usb ports to power on with ignition? Is there a fuse I can move for that?

Oooohh nice! Thanks for the link. Got some reading to do!
My prior post dealt with how to energize the USB ports connected to the entertainment system only when the ignition is on.

If you simply need "a" USB port, say one to charge, but not connect a phone or other device to the vehicle's entertainment system, of course there's adapters like these, as I suspect you know, given that your 12V plug, unlike the vehicle's USB ports, is more strictly energized with the vehicle being "on."

Yellow fuse on bottom is original cigarette lighter fuse.

The red 10a fuse is the original usb fuse but had to add another one to complete the connection, using top slots on the fuse jumper thingies
