Option 1 - 2022 XR, 25K miles, third favorite color

Option 2 - 2023 non-XR, 17k miles, favorite color

Option 3 - Wait for more options

Cost and vehicle condition being comparable, what option would you choose?

Option 4 - Custom order?

Joking aside, personally on anything used I would look at mechanical condition more than anything. As much nice stuff as the XR adds, if it costs a lot more, that's money not going to other mods.

I am happy with what the Rubicon XR added to our 23 JLU except I was uninformed about what the “lift” really was.

I really wanted GobI but waited too long and ended up with Stingrey. I don’t really care anymore. Grey is boring but bright colors aren’t my preference.

For me personally I wasn't going to buy a jeep unless it was bikini, so I'm a vote for getting your favorite color regardless of the jeep you end up buying. However I also wouldn't settle for just anything BECAUSE it's your favorite color.

Depends upon if your favorite color is Hydro Blue or one of the other colors.

I think price and condition and whether you want XR options or not or if you want some of the options (full floater rear end, newer tech, or even expensive stickers now, etc) that come on 2024 would be a factor also.

I know going from a 2023 non-XR to a 2024, both the best color, made me happy other than the price difference.

Depends on use case. I bought my jeep with a specific look in mind that I wanted, to include decals, color schemes, etc. Granite crystal with red and black accents was always the plan, so color compromise was not an option.

Soon I'll be in the market for a used Gladiator.... that one I'm going to care way less about the color, and care more about mileage and condition.

I really wanted a tan (Gobi) JLUR. But in 2018, they dropped the Gobi for the JL. I still want a Gobi JL. But it means less and I'm not willing to paint it or wrap it.

None of the colors I like were available when I ordered my 2024 but I wanted that year more than a specific color. Now, of course they have the Pink. Thanks Jeep!

Hardware over color. Unless it's bright pink or something that you'd really have to stretch to get over, if that's not your schtick. Then I'd just keep looking if it was between two not-great choices.

The thing with the XR is, if that's where you want to be with lift/tires and axle ratio, it's a value. If you're going to scrap it all anyway for 40's and one-ton axles, why would you opt for the XR?

If you're on the fence about color, sometimes looking at google images helps. Different scenes, light, and ways of taking photos. Google "<this color> Rubicon" and browse the images to see if it starts to vibe for you.

I look to a day when vehicles will not be judged by the color of their skin...

Whether to buy one that is your 3rd favorite color depends somewhat on how strong your color preference is. When I was looking for a JT last year, there were a few colors I totally wrote off. All others were acceptable.

Non XR. The flex is limited on the XR. Buy your favorite color and have fun with it stock or by doing some modest mods to get it up to the XR look. Takeoffs can be had for a good price.

I wanted Gobi because of the desert dust off road and agricultural fallout in the air in and around Kern Co. I thought with Gobi I could go a year without washing it and nobody would even notice. 🤓

All else being acceptable and you’re 3’rd choice, not an unwanted color, uh, they are used.
Also- gears, tires, relocation, flare extensions cost about the same as the XR pkg price for my pre XR.(after selling the KO2’s) Upgrade wheels were extra, wanted, but not needed, (and not just a whole 1/2” wider) the stock ones did look good and acceptable for 35/12.50’s. 4.56’s also, wanted, not needed, the 3.73’s pulled the 35’s easily.
Edit- non XR’s have the same lift.
Had I waited until tires were needed the 35’s would have been little extra cost.
