Hi all,

Just want to share this wonderful experience I just had.

Last Saturday I had to go to work and started up the JLRUD and up come the CEL and service throttle position sensor. I did a quick scan with SG3 and the MAP sensor code came up. The previous night on the way home the diesel performed a DPF Regen cycle so I thought maybe it was time to clean or replace the MAP sensor.

I took the engine cover off and found the my MAP sensor wires were cut right through.

Recently the vehicle was in an accident and there was multiple codes for traction control electronic stability control cruise control and adaptive cruise control being offline. However, this happened a week and a half after the incident. I went straight to worst the case scenario and thought someone had come and cut the wires to get me back to the collision shop and have me not drive the vehicle.

After further investigation I found something interesting. Can you spot what's not part of an engine?

Here's another angle.

It turns out that a squirrel just had to have this spot in behind the wiring of my map sensor and was willing to chew through the wire to get the black walnut in there. The squirrel was generous enough to leave me a half inch of wire to work with in order to reconnect the sensor wiring to the wiring harness. What a generous little fella!

Since everything was apart I did take out the map sensor and give it a clean. Here's what it looked like after 51k.

All in all this was a super fun experience to have and I totally recommend it to everyone.

Cheers and maybe I'll post about the accident and the fiasco that came around that one if they ever decide whether they're writing it off or not.

At least you found it. Now since it is roasted, crack that sumbitch open and eat it in front of the squirrel. Show him who's boss.

Last time I had something living in my engine bay, it was inside the airbox on my 10 JK. Little bastard took my shop rags into there, plus some other fun stuff and chewed a small hole in my air filter.

Those little squirrel bastards get everywhere. Last summer I had to work on our RV with the Ford V10. I had to clear out a nest and 50 nuts from around the engine.

Catch that squirrel and stuff that nut up his rear end, that'll make that little rat bastard think twice, or at least slow him down a little anyways. SOB!

Friggen squirrels set me back the best part of $2k (including tow) a couple weeks ago.

I'm fortunate enough to have the tools, know how and the time to fix most things. I just wish I had a garage with a hoist and I would be able to do just about everything for vehicle repairs. Also not wanting to give my money to crazy shop fees and labour quotes that are just insane. It took me about 90 minutes to do the repair and most of that time was spent finding my tools and parts like the right size adhesive lined heat shrink tubing and wiring harness wrap for the fix.

It looks almost like factory and I may end up buying some thermal wrap for all the wires on and around the engine eventually.

I don't know how much land you have or if your neighbors would care if you start doing this, but I'd start popping every one of those little motherduckers with a BB gun until the neighborhoods population severely declined!

Occasionally one of them bites the wrong wire. One day I found a dead one laying outside of my workshop bay door. That little guy was stone cold dead and in a contorted pose too.

Since he looked unharmed, I was thinking we'll he could've just died from old age. Long story short, he had chewed into my workshop floodlight wiring and fried his little pea brain. After looking my stuff over I found where several squirrels had taken turns chewing my antique track wiring among other items.

Shortly after, I bought a break barrel pellet rifle with a scoop. Local tree rat population has never recovered from the target practice that year. My pellet rifle is powerful enough and not too loud to attract attention. Sounds equal to my nail gun that I use quite often.
