Mine is done it took about 4 hours. The blue wire took awhile to figure out too. Yes it is for a trailer brake controller. It would have been nice for them to put that in the instructions. I wasted about 45 minutes on that and the red wire that goes to the control module mine was taped up pretty good along the harness it took awhile to figure that out I couldn’t see it.

Thanks for this thread and those that contributed thoughts and pics. Convinced me to add tow package for my 2 dr since it doesn't appear as simple an install as the JK was: mount hitch, drop taillight, insert T-connect and you were done. Emailed dealer and hopefully it can be added since I am in "D" as all of us 2 dr folks are. "D" stands for December delivery right?

Would you say that the loose end of "blue" wire for trailer brakes on a factory install would probably be located/ found coiled up just under the glove compartment? Knowing this will/would be helpful to any JL/JLU owner with the factory wiring harness that might consider setting up elec. brakes..

Got to give you guys credit for getting the install done. You were all very wise to have purchased and used the OEM wiring harness versus trying to jury rig in an aftermarket, 4 pin connector trailer harness. The JL is not as forgiving as a JK. The $ you spent on the OEM harness are well spent $.

Oh, about my earlier post here. What I was getting at is that for most they would be best just paying for the Trailer Tow and HD Electrical Group package. Most guys don't have the fortitude, know how, patience, time, etc. as you three have. Congrats on your installs and saving the $ !

Take a look at a couple of do-it-yourself Youtube JK trailer wirings. A couple of bolts release the drivers' side rear light. Unplug the wiring harness. Plug in the purchased T-connector. Lift the rubber pad under the light...thread the new harness out the bottom. Replace the rear light. Run the new harness to the hitch socket. You're done. I took me about 20 minutes and $60 bucks to run a simple 4-conductor wiring.
Now look at the procedure for the JL...4-8 hours labor...wow!!! I am definitely paying Jeep to do it for me.

The 4 flat trailer wiring is probably still this easy. Everybody in this thread was wanting the 7 way round trailer wiring with the power wire going to the fuse box and the brake controller wire run up front for a possible brake controller.

Yes I bow to you gentleman. Could I do it? Sure after destroying half the shit I tried to take apart while teaching the entire neighborhood new words they did not know existed! Kudos to the patience and tenacity to perform this install.

I have the mopar hitch that is listed for the jk. I listed the part number earlier in this thread

I only need a four pin any idea on how hard that will be to wire? I did my JK and that was a piece of cake, I certainly don't want to have to run a wire harness all the way to the front. My sport was just delivered to the dealer, no LED lighting. Mark

A 4 way should be pretty easy to install. I’m sure some aftermarket will come out with a plug and play harness like the one for the JK. I just didn’t have time to wait for it. It’s getting to be prime jet ski weather here and I need to get out soon.

The OEM hitches are available for order, now. Problem I have is that they are only a Class II. I'd like to have a Class III. Hope the aftermarket hurries...I need one soon.

Plus, the OEM 7/4 pin plug harness isn't available yet. Need that, too. I want to try and make it as factory looking as possible.

A class II hitch, like the JL itself, maxes out at 3500 lbs of towing. A class III hitch for the Wrangler, if even available, (I don't know if manufacturers will even take this route for liability reasons) could allow the Wrangler to tow more than it is rated to tow.....

Review of the Curt Manufacturing website indicates they have not yet designed a receiver hitch to fit the Wrangler JL. The eTrailer advertisement lists Curt PN 13432, which is the Curt hitch designed for a Wrangler JK. Very likely, Curt has yet to finish their qualification testing to ensure their PN 13432 hitch is 100% compatible. My issue, eTrailer might have taken it upon themselves to prematurely advertise the Curt hitch PN 13432 as being tested and compatible. None of this likely matters, but I am planning to wait for Curt Manufacturing to place their endorsement on their product.

etrailer.com endorses front and rear JK hitches for JL use.

The etrailer.com offering is the same offering they have pushed out for years to be used with many different vehicles. It is not vehicle specific. Again, the offering is not specifically for a JK or JL,Toyota Prius, etc..

With this kit you must splice into the factory wiring harness using saddle clamps. 8-( Yes, doable, but how it may effect your warranty and other concerns may be a major issue for some vehicle owner's.

I might mention that no internet post elsewhere, or forum user here, has stated they have used this wiring kit on a JL/JLU. No one here can positively say the kit plays well with the JL's LED lights if the vehicle has the LED package, etc..

So, it is a tad unknown how this kit will play with the JL/JLU. The JL is no JK. You would like to think that all would be aok?

Regardless, many will balk at just the idea of fooling with the factory harness on a new vehicle and a new 1st year offering vehicle at that.

Hopefully, in the next few months some manufacturer will actually come up with a completely plug and play offering that requires no tampering with, splicing, etc. with the factory wiring harness. Most likely MOPAR will come up with such a plug and play 4 pin flat offering in the future.

I'm in hopes that someone will install this wiring kit soon on his/her JLU and report back here with full install instructions, pictures, how easy and uneventful the install was, etc.. This would be helpful to other's here.

For sure, repeatedly hearing on multiple forum threads that it is a doable.... a trivial install... and for only for $63.00 ....plus the owner's labor ....is of little help to those that want, an inexpensive, proven way to go in regard to this issue. All we have so far is lots of talk and no action....and No JLU with this wiring kit installed and working without issue.
