just picked up a 23 Willys manual. ive noticed upon cold start... the engine idles around 2500-3000 RPM. if I drive off it hangs at around the same RPM...if I put it in neutral and let the car roll, it still revs high, until the car coms to a stop, then it drops to normal. this goes on for a minute to two... is this normal with this engine? ive never had this happen with any of my manual cars. wondering if I should have it looked at.. or does the V6 just need time to warm up? TIA

It's a cold start. The 3.6 is higher than other vehicles I've had for sure, but it's completely normal.

Catalytic converters don't properly convert whatever magical hydrocarbons or whatever that they do until they're at least warm enough.

It doesn't take long to cycle out of it, just plan on an extra couple minutes before you leave on cold starts if it bothers you. You'll learn the quirks! :)

I'm pretty familiar with fast idles after cold starts, but 2,500 - 3,000 is really high. I can't recall any vehicle that I've owned idling faster than 1,500 or so, even on the coldest PA winter mornings. Does the Pentastar really require the elevated engine speed mentioned by the OP? I don't recall that occurring when I test drove three separate V6s at my dealer.

Just curious. I've the 2.0T in my JLU.

Idle is around 1500 on cold start, but it jumps up to 2-2500 on the manual in certain circumstances. Usually if you start moving to cross a parking lot or something similar. Once in gear and moving, push in the clutch and it jumps up to that range until you come to a stop, at which point it falls back to 1500ish.
