I have observed incredibly poor return rates (from both lifted and stock) to the point now I don't even look at oncoming Jeeps so I don't feel obligated to wave and inevitably get rejected/ignored.

I live in Houston and my girlfriend claims people don't wave back often "in the city". She also has a Jeep but originally from the country and claims everyone waves out there.

I think everyone tries to make connections who waves back and who doesn't, but ultimately it's probably just who actually sees it in time, is aware the wave is a thing, and is friendly enough to wave back.
I have also noticed a very low return rate on my waves but imma keep at it

And your gf is right. I'm from a small town and people just wave in general.
I went home for Easter yesterday and we took a drive out in the country and I got a neighborly wave from almost everyone we passed. :)

People from the city do not wave, because they are miserable bitches.
Country folk are just more friendly in general.

I wave at ALL wranglers stock or modded, and I also wave at Modded XJs because I own one.
I have also waved at modded Liberies and grand Cherokees and got a return.
My returns are a good ratio where I live and work.

Closer to the city I am, or wealthy areas, ratio goes down, not saying all city or wealthy folks are shit heads, but a lot of them are just not friendly at all.

Reality is I am waving at the jeep, because I love them, if the driver waves back it feels like you made a friend.

wavers share the same passion, non wavers bought a jeep for some weird status image, and will probably not own one after the current one they are driving ( you know the type, top never down, jeep never dirty)

On an awesome note, my kids and my friends kids all wave when were out in the jeep, my wife doesn't get it.
Actually my daughter waved one day, my wife says, Scarlett just waved at that jeep, I said I know, she's going to be a jeep chick.

Here's a interesting article explaining the different breeds of Jeep owners...

Two Types of Jeep Owners and the Jeep Wave That You May Not Understand
Do other Jeep drivers wave at you while driving your Jeep? Do they go from a three or five finger wave to one finger as you look in your mirror.? If you don’t know what a Jeep Wave is, maybe the problem is you. You see, there are two types of Jeep owners. The regular Jeep owner and then the true "Jeeper."

Thanks for the link.

To the others who are not seeing it in Cities, then if that’s true then Reno must be an anomaly. I felt like I was back in high school with all the ppl waving.

Driving around reno/tahoe I noticed many lifted 4x high fiving me. I made a observation that lifted or mod jeeps especially so. I also noticed that most stock 4x/jeeps do not exhibit this behavior.

Im in the "younger" crowd I suppose at 31. But after extensive jeep research I learned about the Jeep Wave and Im alllllll about tradition and old school stuff. At first I would wave to everyone and nobody would wave back. I was disappointed. Got maybe 1 or 2 waves back

After installing wheels, bumpers and winch...I can say that my wave backs have exponentially sky rocketed lolol

Same here, I have been know to wave at parked Jeep that no one is even in.

I also wave sometimes when I am driving my RAM. But that is mostly out of habit, I see a jeep I wave.

I do not mind the full stock people that don't return the wave I figure they just don't know. But the modded ones I feel like are being snobs. I am stock so you think you are better than me?

If I see a Jeep, I will wave. Since I use to pass the time, until we got our Jeep, by counting the Jeeps that passed me, it is rare that I don't see the other Jeep and wave.

Instead of calling it a cult, I like to think of it as a brother/sisterhood or an exclusive club.

I've found jeepers wave and people that just drive jeeps dont.

I miss some from time to time but I usually wave back if I dont first.

I've noticed that the return-wave percentage goes way up as the weather warms. Perhaps this is because so many of us have tops off and can easily see the other Jeeper wave. Or perhaps it's just because we are all in a better mood when it's nice out.
... and for the most part, girls don't wave.
(Although there's sweet young gal (@TankGirl ) (no offense @TTEChris ) down in Texas on this board that I'm sure does every Jeep thing the way it's s'posed to be done).

I'm north of Atlanta and I get about 80% waves. About half of those I initiate. As others have said, mostly females who don't wave, and generally seem oblivious.
