Lots of good ideas already mentioned. How about something that has his name embroidered or stamped leather that could be added to the various accessories and clothing being mentioned? Like a personalized Jeep backpack or jacket, etc.

Maybe add some Jeep "easter eggs" with his name or initials on it and then place them around different spots of the Jeep. Or perhaps modify some of the existing "easter eggs" to give it his "seal of approval" kind of thing. You could do these yourself, or have him help you as a nice activity to do together (assuming you don't want it to be a surprise for his bday)

Hello, all! I have a 12yo son with Down syndrome who LOVES Jeeps. I homeschool him and his only sibling is in college now so it’s just the two of us riding around most of the time. I ordered a JLU Rubicon in Earl back in December that should arrive this month and my son’s birthday is also this month. I have a ā€œbigā€ gift from him already but I’d like to supplement it with some smaller Jeep-themed things or things for the Jeep. Any ideas? A group of friends gave me a cooler with hats and insulated tumblers (for both my son and me) and a couple of other things on my birthday already, so tumblers and hats are out. We live near the gulf coast in case that’s helpful. The Jeep will have a soft top.

Anyone have some great ideas for me?
Ma’am, you have received and have some of your own great ideas! I have two ideas, but I don’t know if theyā€˜re appropriate for you and your sonā€˜s situation.

First, if you plan on modding your Jeep, include your son in reviewing websites and catalogues for Jeep mods. Let some of the mods be ā€œhis idea.ā€

Second, plan a few Jeep trips (off-road) with your son. Engage him in the process. Let him help you make your plans and decisions on where to go, how to plan out the day/weekend, etc.

Congratulations on your new purchase, ma’am, and I hope y’all have fun on this journey!!!

Might sound plain but glow sticks. We always buy out loads of them for the kids camping. Famlies will pull up in the 100k rigs with fancy cigars and wine and we got every kid at our site with glowsticks! Another good one is a portable CB and create a handle maybe what he names the jeep. Then he can squawk on the rover to anyone listening.

He has SO many flashlights but binoculars are an idea. He usually uses his dad’s when we go places to see stuff (he especially likes using them at Auburn football games ?). These are fun ideas - thank you.

I love all of these! Some I probably can’t do FOR his birthday because I’m not sure how close to his birthday it will arrive, but will definitely hold onto for later on! So fun!

Radio and ducks and naming Jeep were good suggestions!
What do you guys plan on doing with the Jeep? Trails in the woods? Visiting beach? Camping overnight?
Does he have sensory needs? Would he like a hitch hammock for when you stop?

If he likes the outdoors and roller coasters then he will love jeeping.

My boy just likes to ride in the Jeep (like above).

I’d say, plan a get away for his birthday in the Jeep. Maybe a drive down the coast to a hotel. And/or go to an offroad park!

Hi Andi @AndiS

....birthday...make sure to take him to see the new movie Champions, showcasing what special needs people can, not what that can't do. :)

I buy scaled die cast models. Just recently bought a 1:18 Hydro Blue 392 model to match my order. Now this one was pretty expensive ($190) but there are 1:32 and 1:64 models that are inexpensive, just smaller. For reference, the 1:18 model is about a foot long and 6" tall.

I really hope this is done in a respectful uplifting manner. Some of Ferrally's movies aren't.

Thank you!!! We live along the Gulf Coast so routinely I would say beach and camping. We go to Auburn football games so tailgating, as well, though I know you don’t need a Jeep to do that. ? He does have some mild sensory needs.

Have you seen it? It may not be out yet. We saw the trailer a couple of days ago and I was so excited about it! My son played baseball/t-ball for a long time on a rec league team, does year-round club swim (also with typical kids), and adaptive tennis. He LOVES basketball, though - has been to Jared Harper’s basketball camp two summers (former Auburn player). I’m looking forward to it.

I actually have high hopes for it. As I noted, my son has Down syndrome, but I also have a 20yo daughter with cerebral palsy. The Farrelly brothers do make some movies that’ll make you cringe, but one thing I respect about them is that they don’t make the inspirational drivel our family has come to despise. Their outrageous writing actually does more to normalize disability than other much-lauded films. So… fingers crossed!

Where did you find your 392 model? Our Jeep is going to be Earl so I kind of have my doubts I’d be able to find one, but worth a shot. I already ordered a smaller one but he can never have too many, right?
