Mopar is offering a crate Hellcat motor that they announced at SEMA this week.

Jeep Wrangler JL Hellcrate JL - Yes Please! c0dofn9maah6yxwumpf7

There’s good news for everyone who’s been prowling Copart for wrecked Dodge Hellcat Chargers and Challengers: Fiat Chrysler’s Mopar division just announced a new 6.2-liter supercharged crate engine kit called “Hellcrate.” Because every car deserves 707 horsepower.

Have you been yearning to put your project car’s antiquated chassis to the test by stuffing an enormous, overpowered motor under the hood? Of course you have! We’ve all been there.

Well, you’ll be happy to know that Mopar, Fiat Chrysler’s parts division, is at the Specialty Equipment Market Association in Las Vegas getting ready to show off its $19,530 6.2-liter supercharged crate Hemi engine, as well as the new $2,195 Hellcrate engine kit with which that motor “plugs and plays.” Mopar describes the contents of the kit in its press release, saying:

The kit includes a powertrain control module (PCM), power distribution center, engine wiring harness, chassis harness, accelerator pedal, ground jumper, oxygen sensors, charge air temperature sensors and fuel pump control module for the 6.2-liter supercharged Crate HEMI Engine. The PCM is unlocked and set to the factory 707- horsepower calibration.

Mopar says its engineers optimized the Hellcrate Hemi Engine Kit for use with manual transmissions, and that the engine also requires a Front End Accessory Drive Kit, which includes things like a power steering pump, belts, an alternator, pulleys and more. The brand doesn’t mention pricing on that FEAD kit.
So who is going to be the first to do this? I wonder if AEV will work on a kit LOL

It’s not plug & play for new vehicles, it’s for race vehicles and pre-electronic vehicles, which is why the PCM is on-board and it needs a manual transmission.

However, I’m sure that the dedicated shops like AEV will be happy to just have a source for the hardware other than wrecked Hellcats, and will figure out a way to make it work.

FCA should figure out a way to make it work. At least a Hemi.:please:

Oh I’m with your on the Hemi, but unfortunately looks to remain a 3rd party solution like AEV than an FCA provided stock offering, which just leave MILLIONS of dollars on the table for others to enjoy instead of Jeep/FCA themselves.

Mainly Jeep/FCA is saving people from themselves by not offering suped-up Wranglers. Also dont expect cheap insurance as well as most definitely breaking the $60K barrier for all of the bells and whistles. If you have the money then everything is mute but don't cry if you go flying off dead mans curve...lol.

VS raising the center of gravity greatly on a Red Rock, etc?
Rather have the Hemi than that... if they’re gonna monkey with safety, we can do the suspension stuff a little easier than the Hemi.

That would be ‘moot’ , however the issue is an AEV equipped HEMI is at least $20K+ more, whereas a stock HEMI would be significantly less.

I can afford both, but can better justify a $5K premium for a HEMI (even though it’s only about $1,500 for GC or RAM) and the resultant insurance... but paying the equivalent of a separate JK , or Motorcyle + Seadoo is not only hard to justify to the GF, but also to myself.

And the idea of FCA saving people from themselves flies in the face of the very Existence of the Hell-series “top Safety picks”.

$25,000...not including all the driveline parts you'd have to upgrade after you snap them. You could buy two JLs for the cost of putting this crate engine into one JL. Not worth it.

Never said its worth it. But I also don't think the $20K cost for a basic HEMI swap is worth it. With that said I'm sure one will be done one day.

Matter of opinion. True the Hemi would be a great option but the changes Jeep would have to make to the Wrangler would be very costly and most likely not be worth the effort/development for such a low volume vehicle. For those that want to swap the engine themselves then more power to them (literally!). As for Hellcat, again if you have the money then whatever but much more has to be done to the Wrangler to make it safe with that power. Simple swap on a stock Wrangler...good luck.

The Hell-series safety are from cars developed specifically for the Hellcat, not some basic OEM with Hellcat swapped. Even the Trailhawk is much more of a sports car than a 4x4. Can't see a regular Cherokee with a Hellcat installed being a wise move.

$21,500 for the crate motor WITH plug and play kit is a smoking deal. End of story. Especially since you can easily swap a pulley and push ~900 horse.

That said, as others pointed out, will not just work in the JL/JK.

Nope, basic 5.7 Hemi in a JK is absolutely not worth while. RIPP (if you're 6MT) and call it a day. I love the 5.7 in my TJ, but it's light compared to heavy 4 doors, and I paid slightly more than $20k and it was already in there!
