recently bought a 2019 unlimited sport s, aftermarket modifications done but was kept as daily driver. very clean and 26,000 miles. recently took it on a trial in ONF (florida) no mud mainly clay/sand. rarely had issues till it went to soft sugar sand and i engaged in 4WH. it crawled right out of my rut and then all of a sudden i heard a weird grinding sound coming from passenger side, ofc i was curious so tried 4WL, didn’t happen right away but about 3 feet later the same grinding THUD. definitely axle related. does not make that noise in 2WD. it sounds like i broke a axle in half. it’s disturbing, i’ve noticed i need to replace my bearings but i don’t know if that part can cause that loud of sound, its like it’s not fully engaded at all times (slipping?) i’ve been on very many pages trying to confirm my axle but can’t seem to get a 100% for sure answer. pics posted below and a video of the sound i heard. ANY INFORMATION IS VALUABLE AS WELL AS TIPS FOR THE FUTURE!
Thanks in Advance!
first 3 are of front.
everything after is rear (for axle identification for the well educated)

I doubt the axle is broken, the shaft looks to be running true in the knuckle. I do wonder if the FAD is not fully engaging the collar to lock the two front shafts together.

why would bearings need replaced at 26000 miles? agree I would be looking at FAD.

it sounds like someone took a hammer to metal in there. it’s slipping for sure and my axle seal is bad… that white spindle thing just spins freely
