So I'm considering a 2019 Sahara Unlimited. My wife is concerned about the wind noise at highway speed. She says she can't hear when talking on the phone. So my question is about if the headliner package (factory or aftermarket) help with wind noise?

Thanks in advance!

Has your wife actually tried talking on the phone? I have a Rubicon with 35" mud tires and a soft top and I can make phone calls just fine.

My Jeep came with hard top and Mopar headliner. Wind noise is pretty much negligible. I've heard that the Hot Head Sound Assassins do even better, those must make it really quiet.

I have the headliner package, it came with it off the lot. I have nothing to compare it to, but I have no issues with others hearing me or vice versa on the phone using Bluetooth.

Yes, we were on a test drive and she got a call. I was able to get on the interstate and she did not like how loud it was. I’m going to check out the after market headliner.

Hot heads with sound Assassin is great! Install was easy, fit and finish was perfect. My JLUR was pretty quiet until I installed my exhaust. There is the widely complained about wind sound you get right by the windshield...could she have been hearing that wind noise?

Hell i managed a phone call with windows down and freedom tops off doing maybe 45mph and I could hear the caller fine. I assume they heard wind noise but they didn’t even comment about it.

I’d say it’s worth it. Mine seems noticeably quieter than my friends without it, he recognized this as well. I’ve noticed the biggest difference is when driving in the rain, it helps dampen and eliminate a lot of the pitter-patter of the rain drops. I think it’s worth the price, especially when you consider the discount you’ll negotiate you aren’t paying that full price for it anyway.

As an added non functional bonus I happen to think it breaks the color of the roof up nicely and looks better than the straight white of the roof without it

That reminds me - just the other day I was driving on a highway with my driver's window partially down and the soft top up. My friend in the passenger's seat took a phone call and appeared to have no problems. Really not trying to be mean/rude/disrespectful @tm2924, but I think you're fighting a losing battle.

You could be right, she is super sound sensitive. Just looking for input to see if there were any solutions.

Thanks for all the great info.

IMHO no headliner, not even Hot Heads, really "cuts its teeth" in the noise abatement marketspace.

These things are best for reducing summer heat. I'm not trashing them. They have useful indication, but noise reduction, while likely, probably won't be significant, especially when you consider that such noise emanates from places no headliner alone, even designed expressly for noise reduction, could address.

My wife has issues too, but she always has issues, talking on a phone, when there is any background noise. I think she has a slight hearing issue. You might get some Bluetooth ear buds, so she can talk on the phone, anywhere she wants, even with the top down.

The top gets extremely hot and I can feel the heat radiating into the cabin.

Im on the fence on either headliner or the lizard skin paint. I wanna go with the lizard skin paint since it wont do anything except add a thin layer of paint rather than a big cushion.

I have a bucket of special thermal paint someone gave me thats for home exteriors to "repel" heat. Im going to do a test with pieces of fiber glass, one painted and one unpainted and put it out in the sun to see

**EDIT**

The point to this is that the lizard skin also has a 2nd layer thats sound deadening material. Look up their youtube videos. Pretty neat and will probably do it to mine as well.
