Head unit randomly restarting?

Hey all,

Just got a JLUR last night. I went to audio express and got an amp and subwoofer professionally installed (1600 bucks total, bass sounds way better than the alpine option).

The problem I’m seeing is so far the head unit (it’s the standard 7 inch) has randomly rebooted twice so far. Anyone have this issue or know the cause? Thanks

I was really hoping someone would reply to this. I have the 8.4 screen and it randomly restarts itself, doesn’t matter if I’m sitting at a redlight or riding down the road, sometimes it only disconnects my phone other times it restarts the whole system. I also noticed that when it goes out that the usb connections in the back also lose all power.

First check out your fuses in the distribution box next to battery, see if they are seated properly.

If not, you need to have dealer give you a head.

I have same issue, but i have the tiny screen the 5” or whatever. Its pretty annoying.

I have the same issue on both my USB ports below the stereo (base model smallest screen) and the center console USB port. Stereo will play from the iPhone (latest update 13.x and apple cable) for approximately 1 minute then the stereo reboots, losing power resetting the clock. I’ve checked both fuses, even replacing them, as well as unpairing the phone. 2019 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited JL. I’ve yet to get service appt. I left one vm and no call backs. I need to call again.

Was it doing this before Audio Express worked on your rig our did it start after they worked on it?

this is common. i have the 5" unit and it would randomly restart (completely restart resetting the clock to 12:00) about every 5 minutes. Jeep replaced my head unit the third time I took it in and it's only done it twice since then. Normal operation for these pieces of shit.

I have the 8.4 and it has done it since new. I have a 2018. Obvioulsy it is random and doesn't do it all the time. Every time it is at the dealership I tell them about it @JeepCares they won't do a thing about it as it won't do it when they have it and they do not throw any codes.

This is obviously a huge issue and sad that Jeep still hasn't found out why. I have learned to just live with it. Added to the list of issues and quirks with my $50K 18 JL. List is getting long and probably will never buy another unitl they get their stuff together. My list is as follows; bad steering. radio turns on and off, TPMS won't work with thicker tires and lift. Other than that all good ;-)

I have posted a separate thread on this. Mine's just reboots in certain geographical areas near to me for no reason whatsoever. Have taken to Snows in Southampton, UK, who plugged it in and deleted the error codes. This did not work. I've also removed and installed the fuse. No change. It appears it's a botched over the air update and they've said to wait until Jeep fixes it! They have no idea what to do! I'm in the process of selling this 2018 3 door and have bought a 5 door 2015 so hopefully won't have the same issue.
