Hardtop weight

With all the specs available, I can't find the weight of the hardtop. Ideally I'd like to know the weight of the JLU color matched hard top.

I saw a post somewhere here that mentioned the JK hardtop is 100 lbs, and Jeep says the new hardtop is 20% lighter, so that would make it 80 lbs. But this is all hearsay at this time.

I read that the Freedom panels were lighter but I'm not sure about the main hard top.

While this video pertains to a JKU, it will give you an idea how much the JLU hardtop weighs. JLU panels are lighter in weight (supposedly 20% lighter) then the JKU roof panels but again this video will give you a ball park idea. For sure, the JLU complete hard top, weighs 140 lbs. +-.

Yup, all we need is a guy/gal with a 2018 JLU, a hardtop hoist, a Big Game scale and 15 minutes!

If it would ever stop raining here, I would take my hard top off and weigh it. I wonder if I stepped on my scale with the hard top if it would explode.

I'm putting the over/under on 80 lbs.

I weighed my unlimited hard top, 100 lbs. unpainted, not including freedom tops.

Front doors weigh 50 lbs each, back doors are 40 I think but i forgot to record the back door numbers on paper.

Also, on a similar theme, can someone measure how far from the back of the hard top (with rear window open) is the Center of Gravity? While waiting for for my JLU to arrive I want to build a hoist and shelf and knowing the CG would help. Thanks in advance!

Do painted tops weigh more?

All Wrangler hardtops are painted when they are manufactured. They are either painted black in color or painted to match body color.

For color paint code in regard to your body color matched hardtop, see white sticker on your Wrangler.


Black Wrangler Hardtop = Mopar part # 68060405AA

Forgot to put the numbers on pap....You sir, will sit in the corner for 15 minutes (without the hard top on your head--I mean, it's not like to forgot to air up after a day on the trail.)

All I know is that the Freedom Panels are WAYYYY lighter than the old JK style ones. Much easier to handle.
