Also, on a similar theme, can someone measure how far from the back of the hard top (with rear window open) is the Center of Gravity? While waiting for for my JLU to arrive I want to build a hoist and shelf and knowing the CG would help. Thanks in advance!
On the JKU hardtop, the COG is about 15” in front of the top rear edge, give or take a couple. New one probably similar. Also depends on whether the rear window is up or down.

All Wrangler hardtops are painted when they are manufactured. They are either painted black in color or painted to match body color.

For color paint code in regard to your body color matched hardtop, see white sticker on your Wrangler.

I saw a post somewhere here that mentioned the JK hardtop is 100 lbs, and Jeep says the new hardtop is 20% lighter, so that would make it 80 lbs. But this is all hearsay at this time.
I saw the same post Roger--might have been mine, only my numbers were 120 and 100 lbs given the otherwise FCA announced 20% lighter weight..

Your numbers or mine, I can't imagine how this would change the engineering much of anything that would lift or hold the back of the hard top (sans freedom panels) off the rig.:)

While the weight differential might be the balance between some stronger owners being able to do the lift themselves, I would argue that the device's size and bulkiness is its true nemesis to one person top removal sans equipment.

This is a serious question. Is there a difference between the baseline hardtop that is not color matched, and one that is matched to a black colored vehicle?

Let me rephrase the question. Is something done to a hard top where the buyer has paid more to have it color matched to the JL, and that JL happens to be chosen by the buyer to be black in color?

I mean, I would hope so or that FCA would not charge more for a black hard top colored matched to a black colored vehicle....as if nothing special is done to it, no additional cost should be incurred by the buyer for the color matching that never needed to happen.

I heard the color matched hardtop expressly match to black is if fact painted a "sheener" black than the black color of the basic hard top, which is more matted in sheen.

Did I get that right?
Thanks

As I mentioned earlier in this thread, "All Wrangler hardtops are painted when they are manufactured."

YES, color matched "black" hard top offering is going to be much different then the plain jane, black, factory removable hard top.

Standard black has a textured finish. Body matching is smooth like the body panels.

Anyone have the weight for the 2-door top without the freedom panels? 80?

With all the specs available, I can't find the weight of the hardtop. Ideally I'd like to know the weight of the JLU color matched hard top.

Thanks in advance.
I recently installed a hoist and scale. I have a 2022 Jeep Wrangler 4xE. Looks like the top weighs just over 100 pounds.

Im curious about your single-point hoist set up. Not interested in the scale, but I’m trying to figure out the best way to make a DYI hoist in my two car garage with an 8 foot ceiling. Is it reinforced in the attic at all, or did you just mount it to a joist?

None... but it pays well.
All I know is if a scrawny 20s something dude with a 392 JL can lift and place the hardtop in his garage. I know I can do the same with my 2 door hardtop.

It’s not that the HT is heavy, it’s that it’s very awkward to grab and has a strange center of gravity. And it’s kind of flimsy/fragile and you have the rear glass which wants to open to contend with. I would suggest for most people it’s realistically a 2 person job.

@Aerophile
if you’re asking about a hardtop hoist, I use a variation of this idea for hardtop removal. Cheap and easy

What he did was get in and lift with his back... used it like a turtle shell. Left the back window stay open, as he walked around pretty well.
