Went to Dealer, played around with both Bluetooth and Carplay. The echo could be from dueling mic's from the phone and the car. Try putting your phone in the center storage console and then see if the echo from the caller decreases.. It helped for me..
This is interesting!

So is a phone mic on during a call that is going through UConnect?

Not quite sure, but tried a test yesterday and the echo was much less when connected to Bluetooth than going thru Carplay...

Hmmm....... this is so weird. And unacceptable to have to unplug/plug in any time you want to make a call or take a call vs using CarPlay.

Be sure to mention this to your dealers. If we get enough reports, maybe there’s hope of investigation from Jeep.

@JeepCares have you heard of this one yet?

Just commenting to bump this thread. I don't want this issue to fall off the map because it's SUPER annoying. I have a JLU Sport S with the Alpine system. Every. Single. Call. has the echo. Turning down the volume doesn't help.

•iPhone X
•iOS 11.3.1
•Issues over BT? Yes.
•Issues over USB? Yes.

Thanks for bumping this one!

Mind sharing your learnings so far? What all have you tried and what is your exact setup like? What has your dealer said so far?

Lets begin with the basics on what my exact setup is like... I have a JLU Sport S with the Alpine system and the UConnect3 5" radio (no CarPlay or Android Auto). I make daily phone calls from the car and get told that there is an annoying echo coming from my end almost daily. Some days I have the phone plugged in to the USB inside the console, other times it's just the bluetooth connection.

My radio also has other issues (sometimes the time is wrong by +/- 10 minutes, radio resets itself while driving, etc.).

I have contacted the UConnect team via @JeepCares and they basically told me that iPhones aren't "Fully Supported" ... whatever that means.

I have NOT made it back to my dealership to talk about these issues... yet.

Honestly good luck. This "may" be an iPhone issue. My friend has a Ford Flex and iPhone and this happens all the time. If we hang up and reconnect it is gone but eventually starts again. Ford does not use Uconnect so I don't think this is an issue with Uconnect.

Only thing I can suggest is to see if you can pair an Android phone to test and see if you experience the same thing. I have always had Android phones and people I talk to while in my JK and JL have never experienced this issue.

It is not limited to iPhones unfortunately. I think it is an Alpine premium sound issue .That seems to be the common theme I've been seeing . I own a Galaxy 8S+ and my wife has a Galaxy 7, both phones cause the same echoing issue. I have tried Bluetooth and carplay. I have shoved the phone in the center console. I'm almost wondering if it is a double mic issue that is meant to pick up different seat positions but not filtered right . This reminder has renewed my desire to see it fixed.

Try re-pairing your phone to the Jeep. It also could be the signal from cell company. Try to have them re-flash the phone to their system.

I'm unsure how you mean. I've unpaired and repaired a few times as well as uninstalled CarPlay and such. How does the cell signal come into play if the phones work no issue in other vehicles and are only connecting via Bluetooth? This is a genuine question, I don't know much about bluetooth protocols and such. But if I ask them to do this, I'd like to sound a little confident. Haha

I believe earlier in the thread there are reports that the call is improved if done over BT and not over USB. Of course, music is better over USB, and for those with CarPlay, it only works over USB.

@thewolfman2010 - do you have the issue both via USB and BT?

One other general reminder - for anyone who experiences this, PLEASE report it to @JeepCares via a PM and also to your dealer.

I haven't experienced the echo but I do have the crackling speakers at the front when someone is talking. I was wondering if it was my phone and was going to try a friends instead.

Legitimate question, I'm by no means an expert, just a guy who uses his phone to the tune of about 6700 minutes a month on Bluetooth. I had your problem, I did those things and my issue no longer exists. Cell phone companies are NOT the same. I've had Sprint, AT&T and Verizon. Sprint is the worst, Verizon is the best....as far as signal strength and call quality. Whenever I have phone issues I call Verizon and have them reflash the signal to my phone. That takes care of problems 99.9 % for me. The echo has something to do with your signal, either through Bluetooth or phone. That's my honest opinion. I say that because I've had echo when I got a new Bluetooth headset. (I've had about 9 headsets)

For some reason, using the USB makes the volume really loud in the Jeep, so I only use USB for music. Bluetooth is easier on the ears volume wise in the Jeep, I don't know why, but it is. That's my preferred method for calls.

Uninstalling car play....? You don't need to install that app on your phone, it should connect automatically. If you did download a carrplay app, maybe it's the wrong one? If you uninstalled it from Uconnect, then I can't help you. I promise, your Jeep is fine. Uconnect is not the problem. Some how, some way, your Bluetooth signal is not solidly connected to your phone or you have a bad cell connection to your phone from your carrier.

Hope that helps

This sounds promising - I guess what throws me off is it seems like people reporting the issue really shouldn’t see it continue to happen in their car with different phones, if it’s truly just their device.

True. Perhaps the Uconnect of said jeeps needs to have the Bluetooth upgraded..? I know that there is a way to reset it, is been posted somewhere.
