iPhone 8 Plus iOS 11.2.6 Alpine 8.4 Uconnect. No issues whatsoever

I've used Bluetooth headsets (Blue Parrot) and have experienced echo before. Me and my co-workers have come to the conclusion that it's cellular, mainly bad reception areas or bad connections that cause this echo. Try having the other person call you instead or vice versa. I've had echo in my Nissan truck too. It's not your vehicle, trust me. I average about 6300 minutes a month on cellular phone, about 80% on Bluetooth while at work. Echo is rare now these days. I'm on Verizon. I've had all cellular networks, Sprint is the worse. I'm no expert, but I'm on the phone a lot, handsfree. Your Jeep is fine.

Hmm, this seems odd.

Why wouldn’t I get echo in my Grand Cherokee, or the other JLU I test drove, or my wife’s X5 - all in the same area... but get echo in that one JLU?

I’ve had it occasionally in my camaro, Challenger, JL, and my girl’s Cherokee and now equinox. I’ve also had it on face time on a tablet and notebook.

What I’ve experienced is a lapse in the sound cancelling logic in the system. The receiver end of the line, when on speaker, should identify ambient noises as those that have just been received and played over the loudspeaker, and “ignore” those sounds so that the mic on the other end doesn’t re-transmit them back to the sender. Every now and then it fails to do this, and I can hear myself talk through the other persons transmission.

I’ve found that a lot of background noise confuses this system. And....well....the JL has a noisy cabin.

This is a great theory. Those who are noticing this can test it by taking a call while stopped (perhaps even engine off). That would mean no background noise

For what it’s worth, one of the times I was testing it was at a red light... but my experience was very limited of course.

OK, I just came back from work and I notched this.....I only use the Bluetooth to connect to my phone. Today I used the No.2 USB (under the armrest) to connect to my phone which activated the Apple Carplay. I received a phoned call and the volume was super loud and the drivers front speaker on the dash crackled. Waaaaay too much high pitched volume which caused some echoing too. I unplugged it and transferred to Bluetooth and the volume was lower and more clean, no distortion or crackling and especially NO ECHO. I'll also add that the sound is much better when connected to AP through USB for music.... Cleaner, clearer sound than Bluetooth. But phone calls.... Use the Bluetooth!!!

USB = Good sounding music
Bluetooth= Good sounding phone calls

Hope this helps you guys

We have had our JLUS 1 week today and are experiencing all of the above. Excessively loud incoming phone call ring and then the "echo" for the caller. I saw the suggestion about using Bluetooth, so if you're paired in using Bluetooth can you plug in anywhere for power and avoid/improve these issues? Or is it one or the other scenario? Thanks!

Hmm, I suppose that if you plug in using USB it not only charges it but takes primary function over Bluetooth. In fact, I just checked.... It overrides the Bluetooth. In that case I'll just use the 12V lighter plug to charge. IMO, the Bluetooth is way better than the USB for phone calls. But the music on my phone sounds so much better through the USB cord. It'll play through Bluetooth, but it's a softer, lighter sound.

Just called Uconnect and they do not know of any problems. So off to the dealership...
Went to Dealer, played around with both Bluetooth and Carplay. The echo could be from dueling mic's from the phone and the car. Try putting your phone in the center storage console and then see if the echo from the caller decreases.. It helped for me..

Any know if an iPhone 8x will fit in the small top compartment in the center console? Thanks

Bluetooth works better than Carplay for phone calls. Carplay works better for music than Bluetooth. Carplay phone calls are treble-louder and high pitched crackling on the front speakers. Plus, that's where you're getting your echo.

I have a 7 plus. Way too big.

I keep mine on the shelf in the center stack where the disco and aux buttons would be.
