Half wave GMRS antenna recommendations

Any recommendations for a mobile half wave (no ground plane) GMRS antenna I can install on my spare tire carrier/rear gate? Not concerned so much about cost, prefer better performance. Mounting ideas appreciated too.

Yes. The MXTA26 says it is 5/8 wave.

My understanding is that because there's no good place for me to get a ground plane, the next best option is for a 1/2 wave antenna.

I think I would ask them directly. They have come up with this, I think to help folks, but they don't use the standard language (wave). It's probably the same, but they have tried to dumb it down, and then made it ambiguous. Bullbar means no ground plane?

I use the Laird B4502NS which is a high quality 1/2 wave UHF antenna. Also has a spring base. It covers 450-470MHz.
