Going by the to DANA/Eton spec sheet the Trac-loc is not available for the M220 or M186 rearend that is in my 2019 JL. So I’m assuming. that jeep is putting what is available, which is the DANA/Eaton truetrac.
Dana and Eaton are two different companies.

The trac-lock that Dana installs is a clutch style limited slip.

As far as I know, no company installs the Eaton TrueTrac as OEM.

You should pull your build sheet and see what it says. My 2020 has a Trac-Lok. As far as I know, that's what you still get when an anti spin differential is installed.

Eaton does make TrueTracs that fit both the M186 and M220, but they are available in the aftermarket only.

Excellent units and they what I plan to put in my Jeep at the first sign of failure from the Track-Lok.

I can't say what my jeep would have come with had it been ordered with a LSD from the factory. When I decided to add an LSD to my jeep, I did not find a Trac Lok for an M220 rearend. I was today years old before I learned that it was possible. When I was shopping for my LSD all I found was Truetrac. My understanding is that even though many after market sources list my rearend for a JL as a DANA 44 the ring gear in the Dana 44 and the M220 that is in my JL are not the same size and the carriers will not interchange. The list below was one of my primary sources of information. It is a differential guide list from West Coast Differentials.. Even though they list the Trac Lok for the Dana’s, they don’t list one for the JL’s M220.

You have to look at more than just one company to find it.

Basically, no one buys the TracLoc aftermarket so few retail companies even list it.

And yes, the M220 is not the same as a Dana 44. The M220 is what the 44 evolved into, with a halfway step being made with the JK axle.

Yes, the JK Rear D44 is a different animal. It has a bigger ring and pinion then the current JL Dana AdvanTek M220 (JL D44).

It is still a clutch based LSD. The LSD cannot "detect" slip. They simply provide a decent amount of drag to cause force to be transferred from one axle shaft to the other even when there is zero rolling resistance on one tire. To test that, you would need the transfer case or transmission to be in neutral, or the driveshaft removed. With the pinion held steady, the opposite axle shaft is forced to rotate in reverse. It is simply gears, it can't turn any other way.

If you're talking about the Truetrac it's not a clutch based LSD. As the image below indicates it’s a helical design. The Spicer Trac-Lok is a torque-sensing, clutch-style limited slip differential.

The truetrac is not installed in the JL from the factory. I think the Power Wagon had an option for this maybe, that's about it.

Bill, you are not wrong. However that was a half a career ago. The time I spent designing software / firmware for Chysler Engine Controllers was a blast and a really phenomenal gig. Enjoyed it immensely. Really was hard to leave it.

However, on several of the high altitude emission calibration trips that I was assigned, I just fell in love with Colorado. So when the Daimler merger happened, management came out and said at the time, that the plan of record was to move all powertrain engineering to Germany. Take that as you will.

So I floated my resume around the greater Denver area. Landed in Boulder, but no longer working for the automotive industry. However, I'm still designing and writing software but for a different technology sector.

Truthfully, as much as I truly loved working around powertrain development, I couldn't be any happier than where I now live. Any day Jeeping above tree-line is about the best day I can think of. John Denver had only hinted about the Rocky Mountain experience, which I now affectionately call my backyard.

Cheers,
Jay
You ever go wheeling with @Ratbert ?
