GMRS Mic issue

In the past 3 trails runs the mic on my Midland radio is malfunctioning. For some reason people can't hear me. Sometimes if I turn the unit off and on I can get in working again. Today I put a bit of canned air on the mic hole but not sure if that's gonna do anything.

Anyone have a similar issue or suggestions on what to try to fix?

Unit/Mic is the Midland MXT275.

No chance the other guys had a privacy tone turned on, right?

Are you getting reliable transmission from the button? It being intermittent almost sounds like a setting/button/cord continuity issues over a mic issue.

is the mic keying the radio? Creating a carrier? Txmt light on radio comes on? If yes I'd suspect a dirty contact in the connector or inside the mic head (especially if you've been off road). Try removing the mic, GENTLY blow into the connector and re-connect. Or try another mic.

It's not keying. Light comes on red when I hit the button and talk into it. Sometimes I come through clear, sometimes super quiet.

Are you thinking it could be the connector of the handset into the radio itself?

It always has the light on that it's transmitting but people are telling me the can't hear me.

It's not keying. Light comes on red when I hit the button and talk into it. Sometimes I come through clear, sometimes super quiet.

Any chance it's a gain issue with you on low and the others on higher wattage?

Do you have a handheld you can field test with?

I have 2 handhelds I've been testing with. Sometimes it works fine, sometimes not. I'm having difficulty replicated the issue at home though.

The light turns on when I press the button which was what made me believe it was the mic only picking up my voice intermittently.

I was hoping it was something simple or user error but seems I have to take a deeper dive into this. I guess I'll take the freedom panels off and check the unit out. Will report back if I find any obvious things wrong.

Just a thought. I wonder if you turn on the roger beep, if you lose volume on that and audio at the same time it should rule out mic issues.

So I just gave it a test and you can hear static when I talk into it just not my voice. No clue what that could mean.

Just make sure you turn it back off before the next trip, lol.

EDIT: Are you on high power on the channel?

I double checked and it's set to high power. Should I try low power? It seems it might be the cable/mic

I doubt that'd be any better.

Any local friends with one? Be super easy to swap and check.

I'll ask around. I'm going to cal Midland and see if they have any suggestions. It worked fine for months and it's just been recently that I've had this issue.

is there a connector on the mic cord that might benefit from a quick squirt of Contact Cleaner?
