Do you have Aux switches in your JL ? If so you have an ignition wire, direct to battery 12v wire and 4 switched wires in the cab of your JL.

If so, watch this video and you will see info on how to program your Aux Switch(s) if you chose to use:

I do have AUX switches. I will look. I like the idea.
Thanks for the trouble

A friend of mine and I pulled the flares on his JL a while back. No clips were broken when we did that.

We did pick up and have handy 3 clips just in case. Reality is ya never know when a fastener will break.

These particular white clips are readily available and cost under 50 cents each.

Aesthetics and power draw needs aside, would accessing the 12V power adapter (i.e. the cigarette lighter plug) under the dash interfere with the vehicle electronics?

I respect though Quadratec's claim that this product attaches to the only switched lead that it's ok to tap, and likely your best (only) safe strategy for hard wiring things.

Maybe Quadratec's not considering the 12V power adapter I mentioned a "lead," or maybe it really is to be avoided.

Does anybody know?

CANBUS is fickle... actually to say it is fickle, is an understatement.

With that said, the best bet is to keep this in mind when modding the JL.

OK..I'll conclude from your reply that using Quadratec's mentioned product is safe and designed to not interfere with the CANBUS vehicle communication systems, while other electrical connection points may be okay too (Homelink wires, Cigarette adapter) but you take more chances interfering with the CANBUS system.

Thanks.

I forgot to mention, that I think Quadratec's statement is a .... a, well, something to fuel sales so to speak.

For sure, you can find sources in the cab that CANBUS will not take issue with... But, with CANBUS, being so fickle, why willy nilly select a source, that you are not close to 100% sure, that CANBUS will not have a pissy fit about.

Quadratec's offering apparently is CANBUS friendly, so... it is kind of a sure fire way to go lets say.

If you don't want to spend the $30 plus, find another source and test drive it lets say... or use a source that someone else has used that has proven CANBUS friendly.

Yes sir, my thoughts too.

I mean, like you said, the Quadratec product accesses the connection point that won't interfere with CANBUS, but Quadratec may be making their claims for pure truth, or maybe "not lies" (each being different) in that it isn't a lie to say that splicing, say, Homelink wires, or using the cigarette adapter are not technically the process of accessing "leads" by Quadratec's definition.

Tell you what: if I need to hardwire an accessory I'll use your recommended route. Thank you for informing me/us. I'm sure Quadratec's product is great.

I hardwired my dashcam to the cigarette lighter.
My rock lights I ran through the passenger side grommet and installed a relay next to the fuse box.

I don't have my JL yet so I can't go look, but is there 12V power under the dash somewhere from the factory? If so, that's awesome.
Will your JL have Aux switches. IF so, yes and easy to connect to that 12v and also it is CANBUS friendly.

No, AUX ......... read what else is posted in this thread and you will have a better understanding...

I do have the aux switches. So are there only power taps tied to the 4 switches, or is there also a 12v source in addition to the switches?

@TimmH

Guys have mentioned they have done this.... using the cigarette lighter 12v. Direct wire to it will give you 12v but only when the JL is turned on. I only have read one guy saying he had an intermittent CANBUS issue using same. He posted once and then no further word from that guy... I doubt he had a CANBUS issue with that 12v source.

Anyway, a lot of guys / gals, want power on all the time in regard to their camera's so, this is where an offering like I mentioned earlier, that Cool Tech, LLC offers is a must have lets say.. With the Cool Tech offering the cigarette lighter wiring stays hot even when the JL is off. This offering is CANBUS friendly..

@InvertedLogic

Here is what you, with Aux Switches, will find (see pic below) in your passenger foot well.

Under the hood/engine compartment you will also find the 4 wires related to Aux 1, 2 ,3, 4... but no ign or batt wires in that Aux bundle like in the foot well bundle.

If you have to, it is safe to draw power from the cigarette lighter wire. There is no way the CANBUS can differentiate between that and any other device plugged into the cigarette lighter. Just don't exceed the maximum amps that the cigarette lighter can draw. Sorry, I don't know what that is. I think 10 amps but don't quote me on that.

Oh that is perfect. Thanks for the pic. Last question from me: is there a ground pin somewhere under there, or a nice way to ground any accessory I hook up there?
