Are you skipping the grab handles at the top of the A pillars?

My kit was missing those pieces. They should be here Thursday this week and then I’ll weld them up quick.

Grab handles got welded on and now it’s time to prep for paint.

I called Steel-It and they said you want anywhere between 36-80 grit for prep. The feel you’re looking for is that of a match striker strip.

80 seems to be doing the job great.

B pillar coming along good, I'm curious to see how fit up is after its chopped and plates are in, and how it attaches to the cage at the top.

Will soft top door surrounds attack similarly to the tube like the factory cage, with a bolt up through from the bottom? Or is there a bunch of little tabs and crap to make it work?

I'm not sure on the soft top yet. None of the holes are in the tubes for the through bolts. I'm sure that'll be something where I'll need to weld in bungs or something. They haven't released anything specific to mounting the soft top yet, that I know of.

Paint time. I was gonna wait until Thursday but it’s super nice out. Might as well get 3 coats in this thing before the sun goes down so it’ll have a full week to cure and harden.

3 cans for the first coat. Mind you, this sh*t is $35 per can. Lol.

However, the finish is super nice. 3-4 coats should be about perfect.

Nice work Shawn. I'm curious about your decision to complete the welding outside the Jeep. Are you concerned about it lining up with the mounting points after welding has its effects on the structure? I understand wanting to weld it outside the vehicle for ease of access but I'd be worried about things moving due to heat.

Once I tacked things in place, I went back made each tac thicker. I welded from the outside to inside to move all the error and movement to the center of the structure. By the time you get the outside welded up, it's moved as much as it'll move.

I test fit everything and there was 4 holes I needed to make 7/16" from 3/8", but other than that, I was able to install the cage and then remove it for paint alone. Everything fit great.

Forgot to post these last few pics the other day. I added the tabs for the GenRight plates and snagged another pic of this Steel-It paint. Pics never do paint any justice, but it’s the best I can do with an iPhone. Lol
