2023 JLU Willys Diesel. Owned for 2 months now. Have filled up tank at least 5 times now, never a problem, until today. Went to fill up today, at a 1/4 tank. Diesel pump nozzle would not go into fuel filler neck, looks blocked. I tried jiggling nozzle in, nothing. Something is blocking the opening, looks like a small "trap door" not moving out of way. Yes, I was using diesel nozzle at pump. Drove to nearest dealer, diesel tech tried as well to unblock whatever it is that is blocking opening, no luck. Tech advised leave it there, they will squeeze me in as soon as possible to figure it out. Anyone know what the hell this could be? Thanks.

Were you using a car diesel pump or the high flow truck diesel pump?

The car diesel nozzle is smaller and fits. The truck nozzle is bigger and doesn't fit. There's an adapter in the back with the jack. It's a small funnel that lets you run the bigger nozzle.

It's also possible that the flap is broken and not letting you insert the smaller nozzle. If that's the problem it's the first time I've heard that happening. But I would go to the dealership and have them warranty it.

If you're mechanically inclined you can remove the discriminator that blocks the big nozzle. Plenty of threads here to show you how to do it.

Thanks for the reply. I do not know if the nozzle was the big one or small one to be honest. This gas station was one I do not regularly use. The diesel pump I used was not a stand-alone pump, it was just like any other pump with diesel/regular/mid grade/premium. When the tech took a quick look, he did bring out a funnel and tried to insert into filler, no luck, would not insert. So, perhaps flap is broken? Broken so soon? Anything is possible I guess.

I had this happen once upon a time. I was definitely using the diesel pump in the passenger vehicle fuel lane. The nozzle just wouldn't fit... Turns out some pumps are repurposed from gasoline and the filler neck isn't big enough to press the discriminator flap properly.

I recommend trying another station, if it happens there I'd have the dealership warranty it.

Thanks for the reply. I contacted the gas station where the pump did not work. Employee there did confirm that some diesel customers were unable to fill up with diesel, he mentioned Range Rover customers, I think. Anyway, I think my Jeep fuel filler is fine, it was the pump. However, I called the dealership where I dropped off at for them to look at. Recited my story about talking to gas station employee and pump issues. Dealer said his tech tried to insert a funnel, that should fit, and funnel would not insert, so my gas pump story is not the issue. I have a feeling there is nothing wrong with my Jeep, all is well I just needed to visit another gas station, but the dealer wants to perform unneccesary warranty work and bill Jeep. Thoughts?

Look in the back where the jack is stored. You should be able to find the funnel. Then try inserting it. It should look like this.

I should have thought of that. Stupid mistake that I didn't think lf that, mind was elsewhere. Dealer has my Jeep locked up in service dept, will just see what they come up with at this point, no cash out of my pocket, but shitty if they are doing unneccesary warranty work and billing Jeep for it.

Mine did the same thing. The little fuel flap stuck and absolutely would not open. Your flap was jacked too. I got in there with a screwdriver and showed it who was boss (frigg'n broke it open) and it's been fine since. I was also hundreds of miles from home and pulling a trailer.

I'd love to remove the restrictor but mine is so tight it'd take blasting powder to get it off.

That discriminator is made of plastic. I removed mine within a week of getting the Jeep. Worth the small amount of time to remove it.

There's an adapter included with your Diesel
This is normal at different stations

Hey gang,

This has nothing to do with the fuel discriminator, its about the P.O.S. anti-siphon flap that prevents even the smallest of nozzles or penis from making entry. Of course my Jeep dealership made a huge stink that if i removed it myself it would void the warranty, now its sitting in their f#$%ing parking lot waiting for 2-4 days before a service "engineer" can shove his finger into the hole and go "Yep its blocked." I'm not sure who's the bigger idiot, me or the Jeep Service rep as I'm the one that's now waiting for my Jeep to be "officially" looked at. OMG, please shoot me now.
