Know what's gonna piss you off even more? The actual seller listed these for a JKU (typo) for $1900!

Wytheville, VA
Just a note on how you can check for this, and how I found the source for these. In chrome, you can right click on the picture and click "Search Image with Google", the same picture didn't pop up, but you can tell it's from the same group from the thumbnail.

Great post thanks. Maybe I’m paranoid, but I won’t pay by anything but PayPal ( not PayPal friends or Zelle or anything that leaves you without recourse) or cash in person.
PayPal doesn’t always protect you fyi….ask me how I know

I had a very hilarious Facebook chat and Facebook video call with some knucklehead scammers from Nigeria. Check out these messages. Please know that everything I said in the texts was a lie. My brother does not have a gay male fiancé. I did not have an amputation. We don’t have a sister.

The screenshots are of the knuckleheads. I tried to voice-call them. They video-called me, and I accepted the call, and had great fun with them for five to ten minutes - then I rather harshly “dismissed” them.

Enjoy! ?

The military also does day/month/year. So today is 12 Jan 24.
Whut??? Maybe I missed something in my time.... we never used that format--DD/MM/YYYY....curious where you used it in the military...it's certainly not an Army thing or within 25-50....?

John, thank you for your service! I retired from the Army in 2018 with 30.5 years of service. We used DD MMM YY and DD MMM YYYY, regularly. Per AR 25-50:

“1–25. Expressing a date

a. Dates on memorandums. Express dates on or within memorandums in the following formats: 5 January 2018, 5 Jan 18 or 5 Jan 2018 (date stamps only).

b. Dates on letters. Express dates on letters and refer to dates within letters only in the following format: January 2, 2018.

c. Separating date elements. Avoid separating any of the three date elements (day, month, and year) from each other. If absolutely necessary, the four-digit year may be carried over to the next line.”

However, DA and DD forms, for instance, sometimes require different formats than memos and letters. You will see the above format, as well as DD/MM/YY and DD/MM/YYYY - written with all numbers, no letters for the month, written with and without hashmarks. For some applications, we also used this format: YYYY/MM/DD, with and without hashmarks.

Hate there is so much criminal behavior anymore. It was a reasonably good photoshop that I think would have slipped past me. I wouldn’t have paid squat without seeing them in person though. I’m glad you caught it.

I also thought the fork in the conversation about date formatting in the military was interesting. In the late 90’s I was in the Marines and we were trained to write it YYYYMMDD. I was pleased to discover directories using that format on a computer sorted perfectly. I still create directories that way today.

TLDR - Criminals suck, USMC leadership was smart.

Wanted to share my experience from yesterday with everyone so hopefully people know what to look for. Guy claimed to have Red half doors for sale, new in box. I asked for pics with his name on the paper in the pics. He sent the attached pics. Here are the red flags:

  • Paper is a perfect rectangle (cut using photoshop)
  • the lines on the paper are not parallel to the edge of the paper
  • the shadow on the paper is identical in both photos
  • the paper is obviously not laying "naturally" on the boxes - it was photoshopped into the image that he probably stole from this forum or the internet.
  • The seller claimed to be in Boston. It is winter - but the photo has nice green leaves on the trees in the background - so it isn't a current photo.
  • The seller advised package dimensions & weight - saying each box was only 15 lbs. Seems a little light...
Luckily I noticed these details and busted the guy. But we've all been in the situation where you're excited about a buy and forget to look closely at these things - especially on a small phone screen like many of us use. Anyway - hope this helps others identify things to look for.

Good eye and good catch. Usually the pro's are much more sophisticated with their photoshop skills. The only way I would ever buy anything like that would be through any place that would allow you to dispute a charge. Being quite candid, I had two antique ceiling fans that people paid over $6,000 each for. I sold them same day but I had dozens of legitimate offers that wanted to send me money. Have to admit the temptation was there... but no, I did not sell beyond what I had.

Used it all the time. After 34 years in the Army you'd think I'd know.
