Totally agree. I've been using one of these for at least 30-years.

I have used a yellow version of the AJT fob for a few years.

For folks who want to carry a key fob on their waist, there are some nice leather solutions with belt-clip and lock-snap options. I appreciate custom leather work and the made-in-USA factor, but these are too bulky for me. Still, the leather cover reduces risk of scratching other things.

You will need to take the circuit board and RFID chip from one of your stock fobs and move them to the Threedom fob. Not hard to do. Yes, the process is reversible as there is no damage done to the stock fob.

Threedom sends you a little Torx driver and a black screw along with the fob.

On Threedom's website there is a good video that shows the deed you need to do...
https://mythreedom.com/pages/assembly-instructions

You are going to really like your @Threedom fob!
I viewed the (super small screen) video. Very hard to see what i wanted to see. As to that RFID gizmo (about a 1/16" X 3/8")..............I can't get it out of the orig fob. I note the guy in the video mentions that some are extra difficult to remove. i can bearly get a razor knife blade along side of it and not far enough to pry it out.
Any suggestions as i try not to destroy the damn thing. I sent a note to Threesome about my problem yesterday and still have not heard back.

As a tester forThreedom, in addition to helping local JL/JT owner's..... I have done probably 50+ fob swaps. Yes, on a few of the swaps the RFID resisted being removed but I did get them removed.

Worst damage that I did purposely was to very slightly damage (cut) one side of the RFID holding box, not the actual RFID chip. Once the RFID chip was out I just pushed that side back in...

Anyway...

Just look closely at the box like perimeter the RFID is surround by.... look closely and you will see a tiny tiny crease so to speak.

Just place a thin thin bladed screwdriver tip in there and tap tap the screwdriver handle with a small hammer.... The blade will sink downward and spread the one side of the chip holder.. Now just get in there .... in that tiny gap and pry the RFID chip upward...

IF, if the RFID chip is really really locked in there, then with a sharp blade you can carefully cut into the one end of the chip holder and cut/pry the side away from the chip.... Now get in there and pry.. DO, do be careful not to cut the chip.... After chip is out just press/force the cut box back into place.

Again, remember you really do not need the RFID chip actually in the THREEDOM fob. You just need to have the RFID available if you were to have a dead fob battery or if the fob circuit board dies...
Thus you can just stash the stock fob that you disassembled in the JL somewhere should you need it.

In closing... I do believe you can get the RFID out now that I have given you some info... and that you know that RFID chip is very stout ... very resistant to damage and you aren't going to easily damage it, etc..

By the way ... The guy doing the Threedom video is Carl. He is one of the 3 brother's that own DI Labs/Threedom. He has a JT. Nice guy's the 3 brother's are..

@Threedom , thanks for being a long time forum sponsor and for having such terrific product offerings for the JL/JT.

Edit: I type too slow @Rhinebeck01 has it covered

In the small video on their website touch near the bottom right corner and you will see “YouTube” click on that and it will open the video in YouTube. Once in YouTube touch in the bottom right area of the video and you will see an option that will change the video to full screen. I used a small pick and pried at the point shown in the pic with the red arrow. A very small jewelers screwdriver will work

In my post I forgot to point out that if a guy or gal does not want to do their own fob sway that Threedom has a fob swap service.

You send @Threedom your factory fob and they will swap it out for the Threedom fob of your choice and then they mail your factory fob and your stock fob back to you.

White Glove Fob Swap Service:

There are five simple steps:

1. Go to our website and shop hundreds of personalized fob options

2. Choose your favorite and Add to Cart. You will then have the option to choose the White Glove Fob Swap with standard or expedited shipping

3. Ship us your original Jeep key fob (directions within order confirmation)

4. Relax while our Threedom team swaps out your old fob casing for your new, slimmed down version

5. Receive your order and enjoy!

I've also got the threedom fob. A suggestion from another thread was to slam down the 1/2 of the jeep fob with the chip facing down onto a hard surface creating a shock force downward. Not hard enough to break anything. I did that a couple times and then took a small pick, may have been a micro screwdriver and it pried out gently.

One other thing I found interesting is the threedom is significantly less weight. The threedom with the guts in it is noticably lighter than the jeep fob without the guts and key.

I use a Threedom fob. I have a separate ring in my pocket with a house key, shop key and mail key. I never attach my other keys to fobs, so that I can switch between vehicles easier. Each vehicle has other keys I may need, such as for a toolbox, hitch lock, etc. All other keys that are needed around the property are kept in a drawer in one of my toolboxes.

I hate carrying keys, and generally dislike carrying much stuff in my pockets, so I have worked it out to carry as little a possible. Same with my wallet, I always purge useless cards and things from it. I do have some friends though that have 15-20 keys all connected to their fob, and each vehicle fob has all the same keys on it. Those guys also have wallets 2-3" thick full of every business card that was ever given to them. I'm considering dumping the wallet for something more simple. Too much stuff to carry.

Yup, I did indeed have a mini screwdriver set and was able to jam that blade down next to the chip and extract it. (Using a magnifying glass, never did see any kind of "crease" to follow).

I've now tested the new fob and it works..........With this new model fob, it appears that you add the little black key ring thing to the key and then decide where the hell you plan to keep the key.
Thanks again for the better explanation as to how to get the chip out.

Glad you got-er done...

In regard to the key. You might consider stashing the key on the outside of your JL. There is no reason really to hang it from the fob... to carry it that way..... unless say you tend to lock the center console or the glove compartment routinely.

I have one stashed outside and another key stashed in a handy place inside ......

Also.. I'm not sure how much you know in regard to the JL fob but I encourage you (and other's) to go and read through this whole thread. You will read info there that will keep you from being bitten in the ass so to speak..

Before I discovered Threedom, I found AJT. Had one on a Toyota so tried their Jeep FOB. Works well. My only complaint is the battery replacement process is a pain in the neck.
