I realize there’s a million threads on this…entertain me lol.

Had a Jeep shop shake down front. Had play in the pitman arm/ replaced it. Realigned.

stopped or driving I can feel the tires grab immediately turning to left. To the right I have probably an inch, give or take in the wheel before it grabs.
-Shop said I should think about upgrading the stabilizer?

bought it with a $90 aftermarket one on it and 9 wide 18s and 35s. Have since gotten 10wide 20s and new 35s MTs.

Stabilizer yay or nay? Fox 2.0 TS? Falcon 2.2?

It's not the steering damper (a.k.a. "stabilizer").

On 2018 models, the original steering box had many issues which caused it to have steering play/slop. The easy way to tell if you had the early steering box is to look at it. If it's silver, it's the old steering box. If it's black, it's likely the revised steering box.

It's unlikely you'll get jeep to cover the cost of replacing the steering box, but if you recently bought it from a dealer, the dealer may cover it if you bitch the loose steering. Otherwise, a new steering box will run around $300 from an online Mopar parts dealer.

I appreciate the reply I’ll definitely go check that out.

so the dampener seems unlikely on needing to be replaced I guess?

I forgot to mention 55mph+ I pull to the right less than 55mph it rides like a caddy…on new pavement that is lol.

Also, typically, the 2018 trackbar had soft bushings in it which allowed for the front axle to move around enough to feel like the steering was loose. A good aftermarket bar like the Metalcloak or similar should fix that.

Sweet I just found a really good YouTube video on the trackbar as well. I appreciate the info.

There was three factory steering updates: Computer Flash, upgraded steering stabilizer, and the upgraded cast iron steering gear box. As already mentioned in post #2, your current aluminum Steering box, is most likely the issue, unless this update Box, has already been installed.

Additionally, the TSB for the new steering box included ensuring the new trackbar was also installed and provided the electric power steering module programming flash.

Had all three done under extended warranty. Definitely worth chasing down. Still have inch or two steering wheel slop but it does track like new.

Finally got under it…I’ve got the aluminum box.
Gonna go by the dealer tomorrow and see if they’ll hook me up since they wanna screw me over on the paint issue. Ha.

Got my wife in the seat and checked the track bar also. Looks to be solid.

They may have correctly identified the issue, but picked the wrong part. Play on the input side of the pitman arm is the steering box’s sector shaft.

If the gear is still in good enough shape, a sector shaft brace, like steersmart’s, may help your symptoms.

Well…contacted three dealers. The one I purchased from included haha. They basically all said I’m SOL. The gear box is $700 alone FML. lol.

I mean I saw that last night when you suggested it but I feel like I’m chunking 250 bucks out for a brace that may not do a thing when a dampener that’s more I guess…”heavy duty” ***may*** have more effect. Idk I’m new to jeeps. (As if you couldn’t already tell lol)
Can you film the front steering components while you stand on the brakes and turn left and right?

What stabilizer do you have?

Also, you can pull the stabilizer off and see if it's creating the difference. You can drive without it.
