A couple of weeks ago, I saw a JL being flat-towed behind an RV. The JL had a cross-bar with 'trailer-type lights' attached to the spare tire. I don't know if the Jeep had some kind of brake controller installed. I have seen similar rigs for flat-towing JKs.

but I spoke with the mopar/jeep people yesterday and am just relaying that their harness apparently will power the steering.
What number did you call? You must have a much better one that me. I've tried to call Jeep Customer Care and frankly I'm lucky if I can get someone that know the latest projected release date. I've pressed for ANY details on the MOPAR solution and allegedly there is no information available to the Customer Care Specialists.

I called the Jeep customer care went through phone tree for proper question and they answered immediately, they were aware of the basics of this part, guy I spoke with told me it stems from the Cherokee even though different system, mentioned they have gotten several calls on this and was then transferred over to the mopar help line in which I had to supply the VIn number for whatever reason but they DID say it will power the steering along with all the other usual items.

And to make sure I wasn't loosing my mind on what I was told I called again yesterday after I read your post and was given the same answer. Also told me there is no date yet for release as it is still showing in development in their system.

I'm thinking there has to be an electric pump for the steering fluid that may get powered and that is it. Not sure.

I'm not buying the mopar harness, I don't think there is any evidence with the JL's of wobble issues.

I will likely be placing my order with you on Friday.

Question related to flat towing.
I have always had to unlock the steering column (Acc) on my Miata and Ram truck so the wheels turn with the motorhome.
Is it necessary on the JL? If not don't the front tires scrub in corners?
Owners manual only addresses the transfer case.

No, not necessary. Not sure what you mean by "scrub in the corners".

Note: When you flat tow a JL/JLU you want the automatic transmission in Park and the transfer case in neutral. If a manual shift JL/JLU. you want the transmission in a forward gear and the transfer case in neutral.

In mid-2008 Jeep finally removed the locking steering column in the Wrangler and it has been gone ever since. As such, to answer your question specifically, the front tires DO turn when the tow vehicle turns. For Wranglers with the steering wheel lock (pre-mid-2008), it is necessary to have the key turned to a position where the steering wheel is unlocked before flat-towing it.

It does not. Our R&D vehicle has the all-weather mats as do 2 of the 3 other JL's we installed the kit in.
I also have the all-weather mats and it worked fine. I even ran a second wire (my BrakeBuddy break away switch) through it as it was the easiest way to get to the front.

For anyone else interested, we've had a few instances where the switch was accidentally flipped to "Tow" when someone was entering the Jeep on the passenger side. Our harness came with "Jeep" being in the upward position and "Tow" being down, which seemed kinda odd given I'd rather have it accidentally in "Jeep" if anything. Regardless, I ordered one of these switch covers, rotated the switch 90 degrees, and set it up so the cover protects the switch when it is in "Jeep" mode.

Are there any more protected locations to install the switch?

Perhaps up behind glove box or under the seat?

My harness is coming this week.

The way the harness and wiring is set up, it's designed for the switch to mount under the seat bracket on the passenger side and all the wiring is under the plastic cover you see between the switch and the door sill. I'd assume you could route the switch elsewhere, but you'd have to add your own wiring extensions to do so. I like having the switch where it is, but I didn't like the accidental switching of it. The cover I added was < $7, which seemed cheaper than buying wire to move it elsewhere.

Very nice, sensible, functional, clean mod to the Cool Tech offering. Looks good!

I'm sure Kendal, @CoolTech, LLC would say the same.

@bwilliam79

Perhaps you could take a minute to post here what was involved in the placement/install of that switch cover for those that are interested..
