OK, so my drivers side inner fender always was wonky. It would rub against the frame so I trimmed it a bit...but VERY little... Then a little bit more. All in all, I'd say I took about 1/4" off the area that rubbed. Got home from my last big trip an now there's a big hole where the liner must had got caught. My options are order what I hope is a new OEM inner fender off ebay for $100 including shipping...which seems too good to be true. Or spend a grand to upgrade to metal liners all around. I decided to go the OEM fender liner for the $100 and hope it lasts about 3 years.

In the meantime, does anybody have any suggestions on how to prevent this from happening? It seems to be a common theme. Should I add a plastic rivet thing somewhere? Zip tie the new one? Just know it will happen again?

Thanks!

I had my 2021 JLURD eat to sets of factory fender liners. It always happened at freeway speeds with a strong head wind. Both times they were replaced under warranty. I noticed that they have two different thicknesses of factory liners. My third set have been fine and are thicker than the others that were installed.

Thank you! By any chance, do you know what the part number was? If it's too much of a pain, don't worry about it! I ordered what I ordered, just wondered if I'm getting another piece of junk or something a little more solid.

I could not find the part number for the last ones they installed but I do know the below numbers are the thinner ones.

Thank You! The part I ordered is 68299171AE. I'm hoping that the last character represents maybe version number? At least I know it's not one of the thinner ones.

Also, thanks. I was going to reuse the existing rivets and pins but it looks like I should order them for this job too.

I just ran some wiring behind my inner fender wells recently. You can probably reuse the Christmas tree pins like I did, but the rivets are harder to reuse. OEM rivets are $$$, so I bought a 120-pack of 4 different auto-trim fasteners and a trim rivet gun for $40 on Amazon. (Use typical diagonal wire cutters to trim off the tip of the rivet stem when installed for a smooth finish.)

I started going down that rabbit hole yesterday.

Are you happy with the quality of the rivets? I was going to buy some Rexka brand off amazon until I heard somebody say they weren't as good as OEM. A couple people recommended the one from 'clipsandfasteners'. Still haven't bought any yet.

I am good with the rivets. They aren't exactly the same as OEM, but they also don't cost $4.00 apiece. I will say that I'm the type that will spend more to get better quality, BUT I believe that these will be fine.

Thanks for the recommendations. My inner fender came in this week and I ordered the parts you suggested.

I agree, they aren't OEM quality but they worked and they weren't carrying the mopar price tag. No complaints overall and happy with how it turned out. Super easy job to swap it out.

On thing I would recommend is to not drill out every rivet. I think the ones on top could had stayed, as they hold a bracket and the fender attaches to the bracket. The ones where a mud flap would be had to be removed.

Agreed. I watched a few online videos involving the removal of inner fenders before I started, including a few by some "professional" companies, that just tore out everything. Luckily, I also saw some that showed that you didn't have to remove every single fastener to do the job.

I think that Quadrat- I mean one of those companies- was just trying to get people to have to buy twice as many replacement rivets on their site... ;)
