So today after not watching the weather closely enough I jumped on the highway with the sun rider open on my soft top. Dark clouds were building but I thought I could make it. So one mile to go on the highway with no shoulder and the rain hits hard. Wasn’t to bad honestly. Was worse when I was able to exit and flip the top closed. The flip motion spayed lots of drops everywhere. Toweled off the insides as best as I could and parked with the windows open in the garage for the night. Assuming it will be fine. Seats were very lightly damp in spots but not soaked.
Good times though!!

I roll all summer with nothing more then a JTopsUSA mesh for shade, and living in Montana is a dice roll when it comes to weather. It does absolutely nothing except turning large rain drops into small ones when driving slow, but as long as you're maintaining speed, no problems! It does a wonderful job deflecting the 'all of a sudden' hail though. I've always said "Rolling topless; live by the sword, die by the sword."

There I was, stopped in Midtown NYC on I 95 IIRC and no doors, no top just a bikini top.

It was around 5 pm I had been driving since 4 am on the way to Boston for a IT show, some classes at MIT and then on Vaca.

At a full stop the time started ticking by, 6 pm, 7 pm and we have NOT moved yet. About 7:45 a front rolled thru and it POURED and POURED, my foot wells filled up to the top and I to pull out the rubber plugs to drain them and even the rear footwells were full.

Finally about 11 PM the rain let up and the traffic began to move. It was Aug and I was freezing my butt off. With luck I suit cases were hardwire plastic so no water got in but my SCUBA bag was soaked and and my Mountain Bike got wet, but it was a 6 week work/meetings and this was day 1.

Since I got my JLUR at the end of March I’ve ridden top down more often than not and got into a little rain here and there. When moving no problem so I figured out real quick when the first drops hit to scan for the nearest quickie-check or bank drive-thru to do a quick flip back up. My ”wayback” (as we call the cargo area in our house) got wet a few times but no biggie.

I’ve also been riding doors off a lot this summer since I work from home and don’t have to take kids to school - I can mostly switch around my errands or whatever if the weather looks sketchy (we live on the Gulf Coast so we get pop up showers often). Two weeks ago I was doors off and top down when my family headed to church at 8:00 am (again with the Gulf Coast thing - pop up showers tend to happen in the afternoon). We saw a suspicious cloud so we switched to safari mode and went inside. A few minutes into Mass, TORRENTIAL DOWNPOUR with BLOWING WINDS and the church is right near the water. Rain was blowing SIDEWAYS. Anything and everything in the Jeep was soaked AND WE WERE LEAVING ON VACATION THAT AFTERNOON IN THE JEEP.

We drained, we shop-vac’d, and we sat on beach towels for the trip. ??‍♀

Way to overcome!! I try and leave the windows at home as often as I can and keep the top down as much as possible. Thinking safari mode If your moving should do the trick. In most cases, except yours :)

That’s a lot of rain sitting for a long time. I guess you just have to give in to the facts quickly and embrace the suck.

Anybody else tried the Bestop Sunrider? Asking for a friend... Really! My bald head dies in the CO sun so I rarely pop the sunroof on any vehicle we own. And soft tops tend to be loud (but, it's a Jeep, so...)

Yes, I have a bunch (actually rode in rodeos and did the farm/cowboy life a bit in my youth), but even if I flatten the crown they stick above the roofline in my GC (not sure about the Wagoneer). Might work in the Wrangler, need to check that out.

It's iffy... I have a bucket hat that has a cinch for hwy speeds. I look goofy but it works!

Recently got one of those for wearing around the yard and on the trails. Agree with both your points! I usually wore a ball cap but my ears were getting burned and skin cancer is quite a wake-up call... Oh, to be young and invincible.

Yep lifelong ball capper. Now I‘m a bucket head. My wife looks at me and shakes her head… then says you need to cinch it up so it doesn’t blow off. She still cares!
