OMG, that's embarrassing.. It will never happen again, promise. ?
The only picture I have right now is when I was in the Jeep at the dealership with a big smile on my face (we are hopefully picking it up today) - so will post it then!

Very grateful to have found this community here!
I won't judge you for calling a Jeep a car, just try to avoid doing it. But I will judge you if you put an ANGRY GRILLE on your Jeep!!!

It kinda funny how everyone gets so mad if you call a Jeep a car, while the vast majority of folks here seem to think it's a-okay calling their wheels "rims" ?

@Jeepiter congratulations on your first vehicle, great choice going with Jeep. They hold their value, that's for sure! I'm probably a bit on the extreme, loose cannon side of things. But personally you don't truly own a Wrangler until you've modified it. So yours being a Sahara, you need to put your name on the hood, and I'd say keep it to 33s unless you're putting a lift on there. Presumably there will be lots of daily driving and not much off-roading? I have Goodyear Wrangler Workhorse ATs on my wife's Subaru Forester. I would definitely recommend some good AT tires, not too aggressive, for daily driving.

I'm not really keen on keeping my Wrangler in one piece, I like the projects and I like doing my own handiwork, so I guess if you wanted to keep it in one piece I would say keep it at 65 and don't try and punch it ever. Wranglers are definitely not speed demons, and that's a good way to kill any car. It's a brick, treat it like such. ;) ??

I've never understood this myself. I grew up pretty much my whole life with the metal in the center that the tire sits on being called the rim. Going out and buying new rims. Tires are just that tires. The wheel I've always understood is the whole package rim and tire. So to buy new rims is just to buy the metal, new tires is just the tires, to buy new wheels is to buy a rim and tire package. Has the terms changed in recent years? I'm only 36, but sometimes I feel like I'm 50. I can't keep up with all these changing terms! ?

It is a picture from the TV Show Rat Patrol, from the late 1960's, when I was a kid. I can't guarantee that is actually a Jeep, but I believe it is a Jeep Willys MB. I always loved watching the guy on the back of the Jeep holding on to the machine gun for dear life as they go over the top of the dunes...

Here he is ‘Jeepiter’ !
(Back story: we have a dog that we named Mars and so this seemed fitting haha)

Love the color, Sarge Green is the way to go. Just remember you're not a true Jeeper unless you park on the curb! Even if that means going out of your way to park in a spot that has a curb available. The more wheels you get on the curb the more OG you are!
1 wheel on the curb: "welcome to the club, you must be new here"
2 wheels on the curb: "I can see you've been here a while"
3 wheels on the curb: "you must be a tried and true veteran Jeeper"
4 wheels on the curb: "JEEP GOD STATUS!!!"

English is not my first language so I’m happy to not only learn a lot about Jeeps but also being up to date with the slang haha. I appreciate it! I also had no idea about ‘angry grille’ until I saw one recently, unfortunately I’m not a big fan so will no be doing that..

Thank you for the tires and speed advice too!

I'm about a decade older and have always considered just the outer portion of a wheel to be the "rim". Tires are tires, wheels are wheels and the whole package being tires mounted on wheels. One of few times I would ever make reference to the rim is "Oh no, he curbed his wheel and scratched up the rim (of the wheel)."

I first noticed the usage of "rims" as slang for wheels when listening to rap growing up in the late 80s into the 90s, but still thought it seemed grammatically incorrect (not sure if its etymology predates that or not).

It's similar to loading up your pistol "clip" (magazine) with "bullets" (ammo/cartridges/rounds), since the bullet is only one part of a loaded cartridge and not a singular thing until it's fired.

But, whatever floats your boat is cool with me ??

Rims used to be just that, the metal outer part. It bolted to a center hub. Almost exclusively used in the past on medium to heavy duty trucks. When you unbolt those 5 outer lugs, the rim/tire comes off. The center part of the wheel is like a giant hub. Some antique early cars cars used a similar set up when they had wooden hubs.

These days we have modern drop center one piece wheels that bolt to a smaller hub. I've heard both terms rims and wheels used interchangeably growing up. Rims vs wheels seems to be a generational/regional thing. Used to be, when I was young, the old timers used the term rims. Then with the rise of 20" and larger wheels in the 90s/00s, the term rim seemed to come back into use, as that's what pop culture started to use.

Sorry the the shallow dive into history. Back to your regularly scheduled bickering.

Even though it was a nickname during the war, since the name “Jeep” wasn’t officially trademarked until 1950 “technically” the Willys MB and Ford GPW were simply 1/4 ton quad trucks and not Jeeps. It’s a silly detail to be hung up on so I only bring it up when people have issues calling Jeep a car, a rim a wheel, or a motor an engine. ?. That history you shared is awesome! I’ll have to check out that show. I grew up watching Dukes of Hazard. I blame Daisy Duke for my Jeep obsession and the boys for all of my speeding and reckless driving tickets…

So not exactly analogous, but someone referring to beadlock wheels as "rims" would be a little more correct, at least in spirit.

Little known fact, but back in the day, the Flintstones didn't even have rims on their car (don't call it a car, it's a Canopysaurus dammit!), though maybe the ancient Sumerians did..
