?Kidding— See large wink, good point though.Well, it's here first automobile ever, so let her slide on this. FIrst Jeep could mean some owned a dozen different vehicles prior.
I won't judge you for calling a Jeep a car, just try to avoid doing it. But I will judge you if you put an ANGRY GRILLE on your Jeep!!!OMG, that's embarrassing.. It will never happen again, promise. ?
The only picture I have right now is when I was in the Jeep at the dealership with a big smile on my face (we are hopefully picking it up today) - so will post it then!
Very grateful to have found this community here!
It kinda funny how everyone gets so mad if you call a Jeep a car, while the vast majority of folks here seem to think it's a-okay calling their wheels "rims" ?I won't judge you for calling a Jeep a car, just try to avoid doing it. But I will judge you if you put an ANGRY GRILLE on your Jeep!!!
Says the person with a profile picture that isn’t an actual “Jeep”…?I won't judge you for calling a Jeep a car, just try to avoid doing it. But I will judge you if you put an ANGRY GRILLE on your Jeep!!!
I've never understood this myself. I grew up pretty much my whole life with the metal in the center that the tire sits on being called the rim. Going out and buying new rims. Tires are just that tires. The wheel I've always understood is the whole package rim and tire. So to buy new rims is just to buy the metal, new tires is just the tires, to buy new wheels is to buy a rim and tire package. Has the terms changed in recent years? I'm only 36, but sometimes I feel like I'm 50. I can't keep up with all these changing terms! ?It kinda funny how everyone gets so mad if you call a Jeep a car, while the vast majority of folks here seem to think it's a-okay calling their wheels "rims" ?
It is a picture from the TV Show Rat Patrol, from the late 1960's, when I was a kid. I can't guarantee that is actually a Jeep, but I believe it is a Jeep Willys MB. I always loved watching the guy on the back of the Jeep holding on to the machine gun for dear life as they go over the top of the dunes...Says the person with a profile picture that isn’t an actual “Jeep”…?
Love the color, Sarge Green is the way to go. Just remember you're not a true Jeeper unless you park on the curb! Even if that means going out of your way to park in a spot that has a curb available. The more wheels you get on the curb the more OG you are! Here he is ‘Jeepiter’ !
(Back story: we have a dog that we named Mars and so this seemed fitting haha)![]()
I'm about a decade older and have always considered just the outer portion of a wheel to be the "rim". Tires are tires, wheels are wheels and the whole package being tires mounted on wheels. One of few times I would ever make reference to the rim is "Oh no, he curbed his wheel and scratched up the rim (of the wheel)."I've never understood this myself. Even though it was a nickname during the war, since the name “Jeep” wasn’t officially trademarked until 1950 “technically” the Willys MB and Ford GPW were simply 1/4 ton quad trucks and not Jeeps. It’s a silly detail to be hung up on so I only bring it up when people have issues calling Jeep a car, a rim a wheel, or a motor an engine. ?. That history you shared is awesome! I’ll have to check out that show. I grew up watching Dukes of Hazard. I blame Daisy Duke for my Jeep obsession and the boys for all of my speeding and reckless driving tickets…It is a picture from the TV Show Rat Patrol, from the late 1960's, when I was a kid. So not exactly analogous, but someone referring to beadlock wheels as "rims" would be a little more correct, at least in spirit.Rims used to be just that, the metal outer part. It bolted to a center hub. Almost exclusively used in the past on medium to heavy duty trucks.
