Hi all! Just wondering if anyone has driven the MT/2s that come with the Willys on snow? How was it and what type of snow?

Slippy, but survivable in a coating of snow, worthless in slush.

My Willys with the LSD had the destination M/Ts. My Rubicon without the LSD has the Wildpeak M/Ts. They do better in the snow for sure, but not by a ton. The Wildpeaks do have the 3 mountain rating, but they’re not as good as real snow tires.

Neither are as good as the dedicated snows on the wife’s Touareg - that thing is an unstoppable (but completely stoppable) beast.

I never took the Destinations out in anything too bad though.

edit: a word, a sentence

Thanks for your input! I have a set of ko2s available to me. I'm wondering if the step-up in performance between the ko2 and FDmt2 warrants changing them out for daily driving in the NY winters. Sounding like a yes, lol.

Pretty sure the KO2’s have the 3 peak mountain snowflake on the side, so my bet is they’ll be a bit better than the Destinations, but that’s conjecture.

The KO2’s will always do better in the snow than any mud tire due to the amount of siping. With that being said.....my Destination MT2’s did well this past winter on fresh, untraveled winter snow on some government land in the Daniel Boone National Forest near home.

Get them siped and they will be good. We've siped MTR's (original ones) and Mickey Thompson Baja MT's with excellent results. The MTR's were horrible as they didn't have any siping and Mickey Thompsons were ok as they had some siping. After siping both sets, they performed very well, good enough as to not need AT's while driving in snow in the mountain roads.

In fact, they act like a very good hybrid AT/MT. The large void and big lugs are great for going through deep snow while all of the siping does well with grip on snowy/slippery hard surfaces.
