FCA Lifetime Warranty Question

No I did not get the lifetime after expires of the offer. I'm not a lifetime Max Care as it is over $3k and $100 deductible which you over pay extra for a $39 warranty visit... So the lifetime is not worth it as new and better Jeeps are coming out in 4-5 years. In fact my next Jeep is the 2020 Jeep Gladiator may wait for the 2021 models... So hope this add prospective and is lifetime worth it. FYI I have had 4 Jeeps over the years and only did the Max Care on this JL Rubicon as it is all computer driven.... older Jeeps where like working on a 57 chevy.... Hope this help you and others.

If you keep vehicles for a long time the lifetime may be worth it. I tend to hold onto cars for a long time....16 and 13 years sitting in my garage. But still dont know if i would shell out 3k, that is a lot. I personally have no interest in a hybrid, electric or diesel.

If you can teach yourself tuning new cars are not that hard to work on. There is definitely a learning curve but doable. Its just a different animal. The tuner shop i take my LS1 to wont even let older cars in the door. They would rather hook up a laptop.

I rest my case based on your statement.... it all going computer and in today service cost is high.... It was hard for me to give up my 57 Chevy convertible as could not find parts or a good technician to work on it who was 70 years old.

I didnt know how to pull an engine or rebuild a top end until i did it. Just depends if your willing to put in the time. But this notion that new cars are this mystical beast to work on is just a matter of perspective.

Yes in the old days you had to know how to pull an engines etc. Vehicles have come a long way. In fact Jeep app Unconnect tells you when to change your oil and air in your tires.

I had a '12 JKUR I ordered new and picked up in August of '11. I'm an old ASE mechanic and have done all my maintenance and was picky about it being done right. I religiously did oil changes every 4-5K with Pennzoil Platinum synthetic. Did the trans, cooling system, diff fluid changes, etc. Had a 3.5" lift, wheeled her well ... during my 7 years and 110K miles of owning her and having a TON of fun I had the following:
(Note: I did NOT have the bad pentastar heads)
- 3 Oil filter adapters, one under warranty the other two out of pocket.
- Driver's side head gasket (said my casting was not under the extended head warranty from the early JK Pentastars) ... was leaking a little bit of antifreeze. Always had an antifreeze odor when warm under the hood but never lost pressure and would see a little bit of loss in the overflow bottle over time ... but no leak even with dye.
- 1 set of Ball Joints
- 3 sets of front axle seals ... driver's side kept leaking even with Mopar seals, last set were offbrand.
- 1 set of coil packs (two of the driver's side failed at the same time and I just did all six)

Finally, at about 108K it started knocking at startup and would quiet down (almost couldn't hear it) at full warm up. I got rid of her before it went completely, but my quotes for new engines (I live in a townhouse now so doing the swap myself is a little challenging) was between $6K-7K installed.

It also would eat about 2 quarts of oil between 5K mile oil changes.
I also started noticing all the wire loom under the hood was cracking as it was always REALLY hot under the hood (never swapped it).

I know my Pentastar was not the norm ... I have buddies who have 200K on theirs with zero problems and they eat hardly any oil between changes. But it was frustrating to have spent what I did to have the failures I did.

With all that said ... I am waiting for my new '19 JLUR to arrive and I went with the (new gen) Pentastar and auto and am hoping for better success. The lifetime warranty will be considered if the price is right. Especially when I am planning to give this to my daughter in a few years when she goes to college and I retire for career #3!

The lifetime is no more. I think the most you can get is 8/125,000

Those of you who contacted Tom, how is his plan different from contacting Mopar directly? Also, if you buy from him in Michigan, does his plan cover you living in another state?

Mopar usually only quotes the plans at MSRP. It can be purchased from any FCA dealer in he US, it covers the vehicle regardless of where you live in the US.

Tom in Michigan and Clay in Kansas are the most popular on various forums because they will sell the plans under MSRP, at slightly over their cost. They make money because of the volume they sell.

Example, for my Unlimited Rubicon: Lifetime MaxCare w/ $100 deductible had a MSRP of $4,290, but I only paid $2,850

I priced out Zeigler, Tom and Clay when I was in the market. Clay was the cheapest being $100 lower than Tom.

Tom quoted me at 2300 for the same plan. Amazing. I just wanted to make sure these are real plans and not fraudulent.

I should add why do a $100 deductible which means each time you go for warranty work it cost you $100 even if it is a simple fix less then $100.
