I ordered a Willy's Sport XR. I joined TL the day before I ordered and was told as long as I have the membership letter when I show up to pick up the Jeep they will honor it. In order to get the 6% their stipulation was that you join TL.

Before you trade, look into what somewhere like CarMax will give you and what it's worth in a private sale. Trading in is easier but the value will almost always be lower in a trade. I'm going to put my '18 JLU up for sale in the next couple of months for the down payment on the new one. If all goes well I'll be able to pay off the remaining loan in a year or less.
Yes, i’m waiting for the AutoLand trade-in quote too. He took it such a detailed assessment that I’m probably not gonna get much for it but I will take it to Carmax. Thank you!

You know I wanted to go to Willys Sport too but they had roll up windows and I really wanted electric windows and in the package that comes with his incredibly expensive and I’m trying to crunch the numbers so that I can stay in the upgrade, but I guess I would be just as happy with a sport except for those windows! I started with the Wrangler, and once I saw the Willys, I am not looking back

There could be tax advantages to doing a trade-in over selling it separately. Make sure you look at that aspect of it @mlz .

You mean within the negotiation of the sale of the Jeep or within my income taxes?
I don't remember the specifics, but I'm thinking that it was the drop in sales tax due to the reduced price. Someone with a better memory for those details will hopefully chime in.

Note that many of us don't negotiate. We simply call the dealerships that offer the best prices. See the spreadsheet in my sig.

At 6% sales tax, the tax on a $50,000 vehicle is $3,000. If the dealer gives you $25,000 for your trade in, at least in Ohio, that amount is subtracted from the purchase price. So now you are only paying $25,000 for the vehicle. Tax on $25,000 is only $1,500. So you save $1,500 in taxes by trading the vehicle in.

Calif is 10%+. something, plus a qtr % for the specific area I live in. So for instance, I was quoted a price of 47,210.- (Willys). plus 600+license, taxes (4,847.) and fees for a total of 52, 862.- (5,652. T, L & fees). I've already gotten a better quote but even that quote is tight to stay in the upgrade. I may need to go down to a Sport to stay in the Willys..

Just curious, can you combine the discounts? Like Tread Lightly and the Employee Friends Program? Dealer said no, but at the bottom of Employee Advantage email it said it could be combined "with other consumer incentives".
