Failing pulleys?

21 jlr 3.6 etorque
Sounds loud up front like air whooshing. But the cooling fan is not on.
Tried to spray the pulleys from behind with water and it made no change so i think watery mud got into the pulleys from a trip 3 weeks back.
Engine oil and filter is fine and clean.
My guess is idler pulley and the tensioner pulley.
But jeep has been running fine the last week to and from work 10 miles each way.

That sounds like a good guess. I would think idler or tensioner as well. They are fairly easy to replace

i ordered the 3 pulleys on the passenger side. looks like 2 tensioners and 1 idler pulley and i ordered the lower idler pulley on the driver side just in case.
i cant stand the sound it is making so hopefully it will fix it.
with the hydraulic pulley it looks like you have to unbolt it, when you try to release tension it only moves a inch.
there are not any videos on changing the belt for the 3.6 etorque engine so i will be going in kinda blind but live and learn.

I don't have the etorque, just standard 3.6. Good luck. When I replaced my alternator, i had to loosen a component (that blocked the square hole in the tensioner) and rotate it out of the way just to access it.

it looks like that stops the hydraulic pulley from releasing any further.
but after removing the piece it looks like you still need to remove the shock looking part to get the tensioner to move over enough to slid the belt off.

I just replaced my belt yesterday and had to do the same. Not sure what that “component” is that’s in the way.

Just a update for those in the future, if your belts/pulleys sound like a second fan taking off in the engine bay.
It could be pulleys.
I got stuck in some deep clay/sand water and it found its way into the bearings.
There was no grinding or squeak in them or excessive play, just the sound of a electric fan.
I had to replace 3 belt tensioners and 1 idler pulley on my 3.6 etorque.
Thank gosh its fixed now, i leave for moab in 2 weeks.
