You've no doubt heard of Factor 55. If you haven't seen these, I highly recommend both of the Factor 55 guides:
* Basic Guide to Winching
* Basic Guide to Kinetic Energy Recovery & Towing a Disabled Vehicle Off Road
They are authored by Bob Wohlers from Off-Road Safety Academy. They are each $4. If you read through them (30-40 pages), rehearse in your head like you're studying for a test (because you are in a way), and practice with your gear, you will be more knowledgable than oh, say 90% of people out there. They are very clearly written and concise - what owner's manuals should strive to be. I see so much misinformation on forums and Youtube - tow straps used as snatch straps, incorrect attachment points, no safety gear, no knowledge of mechanical advantage or winch line loss, etc. that I felt compelled to post this. The information could save your gear and your life.
